Have any USA residents here ever received money from outside the USA via PayPal? I have another member here who would like to purchase something from me and pay using PayPal, but I am leery of their sometimes exorbitant fees. We're talking about a $50 fund transfer. TIA.

Bill,

Have him P/P the funds via family & friends so no fees on either end as long as it comes from a bank account or P/P funds. Credit cards will have fees if done that way. I have had regular P/P transfers and I don't think there was fees like what you are talking about. Have the buyer pay using a check and wait for it to clear so no money was spent on M/O if that is an option for the both of you.

Bill, I have had made many PayPal purchases from the Australia to the US, some with members here, and never had any negative reports.

always make the foreign buyers pay all the fees...its normal etiquette..it shouldnt cost the seller money because the buyer is not in the US

if they cant get it in their country...well, then they have to pay the fees involved

i quit shipping stuff out of the US...takes a lot of time, theres a lot of hassles, id rather keep it...but thats just me

i sell out of the country a lot..as long as they have a US address to receive it..

Sold some parts to a member here. Went to Aussie land. PayPal used. No issues.

Based on what you sold, any guesstimate how much I will be charged by PayPal to receive $50?

As I recall, there were no fees involved with the transaction. Used family transfer as suggested.

Figure 3.5% P/P fees so around $1.75 if done the normal P/P way through eBay.

Mark,

I have bought lots of parts and various other goods, and imported a good number of cars from the US, and I have never had a problem with any of the sellers, in fact everyone of them has been great to deal with and several have become friends. We don't have the luxury of just popping down to the local parts store, or going to the big swap meets to get what we need for our American cars.

Gonna give it a shot and hope for the best. This is not an eBay transaction. I was just worried that they would charge me $10 (or something equally ridiculous) on a $50 money transfer from outside the USA. Thanks to all who have responded here <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif

If they send you a paper check or money order from Canada, make sure it's in US FUNDS.
If not, your bank may charge you a $10-$40 fee to retrieve those foreign funds.

I sold some parts the other day, the buyer contacted my local UPS store and arranged to send them a money order made out to me for the price of the parts. When I took the parts to UPS they gave me the money order. Buyer paid for UPS to package and ship. I had never seen this done before. It seemed simple. Money order was deposited and appears to be good. This was inside the USA if that would make any difference.

You got balls.
Money orders can be easily made and are not instant. It takes time for them to clear or to be found fake.
I wouldn't have handed over the parts to UPS until I deposited the money order in my account and waited for it to clear.
If it's found to be bogus, you pay a bank fee too.

A BIG X2!!
I would do a check before a money order.

USPS postal money orders can be cashed on the spot at the post office. They check them while you are there.

The ONLY M.O. IMO. USPS can only be purchased with cash and are therefore guaranteed 'as cash'.
I accept them in any transaction and use them to pay as well. They are also insured and can be tracked.

PayPal charged the sender a bit over $2 to send the money to me, and allegedly will cost me nothing.....we shall see. Thanks to everyone for their input.

I learned the necessity of specifying "US FUNDS" on a check from a Canadian bank many years ago when we had a rental property here in AZ that we rented to a Canadian tenant <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/shocked.gif Another 'live and learn' lesson.

that's how the guy wanted to paid when I bought the 55 out of NC... seems like they had a 1500 limit or something strange I had to buy a pile of them to overnight down there, blew the post masters mind when I kept laying down cash and asking for another one, lol
