I want to thank all of Annie and my car friends for the overwhelming outpouring of calls, texts and emails. I have not been able to answer most calls but have answered every email and text as it has been very busy.

For those that don't know or don't flow Facebook, she had been sick with the flu since Thanksgiving. I took her into urgent care a week ago Monday after I noticed a very distended and rock hard stomach. They wrote it off as being just part of the flu and sent her home. On Sunday morning she collapsed while trying to get a drink of water so we rushed her via ambulance to the ER. After doing several tests it was determined she had a terrible septic infection, internal bleeding, pneumonia, one lung that could not operate correctly due to all the fluid in her chest and belly, an irregular heartbeat, and a failing liver. They have been working nonstop since Sunday morning to get the infection under control before they can address all the other issues. Needless to say she is very very sick and will be spending Christmas day in the hospital. She never complained prior to collapsing other than feeling sick with the flu and hated the attention.

Again I thank you everyone for all the prayers and well wishes which mean a lot to both of us.

Thanks everyone for your kind words as well as your thoughts and prayers. Annie has always consider her car family like brothers and sisters and we have made great friends through the sYc board. Unfortunately this is terminal. We did not see it coming and presented no obvious signs before Thanksgiving and by then the damage was too extensive. I am very unsure of the future but suffice to say i will be taking some time off from the shop and concentrate on Annie. I have to make the best of what i have left with her. Thank you all for your support. Merry Christmas to everyone.

Rick, I hate this news. One of my favorite things about our trips to MCACN was stopping by to see you and Annie, going out for dinner, drinks, laughing, joking and having a great time. I always looked so forward to seeing Annie. The photo you posted of her with Hollywood lying by her side was so touching, I know he is of great comfort to her. We love you guys. You are both in our prayers.

Rick posted this 10 hours ago on facebook...

"Today Annie made a nice improvement and her doctor says they are getting a handle on her infections. Her stats looked much better today, sat in a chair all day and even ate for the first time since last Thursday. Maybe I will finally be able to sleep tonight.

I want to thank all of our friends and family from the bottom of my heart. The amount of concern, prayers and offers for help has been overwhelming. I need to run home twice a day to take care of our boys and many of you have offered to sit with Annie while I run home. This really takes a huge load off of me since I know that someone is there watching over her even though up until today she was usually sleeping. It is tragedies like this that really bring out the best in people and for that Annie and I are forever grateful. Thank you!"

Thank you everyone. I will not leave this situation as the same man as I was two weeks ago for a multitude of reasons but this has certainly given me a whole new outlook on life. Our friends have just been amazing to say the least and it has not gone unnoticed. Our car family is like no other!

Annie's doctor was in this morning and was VERY optimistic and for the first time talked about the future in a good way instead of talking terminal. This gave us both a lot of hope. They are getting a handle on her infection which was what was taking her life. If she can kick that then there is a lot of hope for her.

Again, words cannot express the gratitude that I feel for all that you guys have done. To this point Annie has little idea of the outpouring she has received. She HATES attention and has been too I'llto read all the posts or Facebook so this will be a big boost for her when she gets home. We are hoping maybe in a week.

Thanks also to our customers who have been great especially knowing their car has not been worked on. We love all you guys!

This was hopefully a turning point for Annie. Memorial Hospital had said no to any pet visits until i reminded them that we have been on call with this hopital 24/7 when they needed our therapy dog help. This time it was our turn. The head nurse also remembered Hollywood being brought i to her mom's room at a competing hospital when her mom was dying. He could not help her mom but did wonders for the family. Annie getting to have her fur baby sleep with her meant the world to us. Her gastrologist came in and was not happy about Hollywood being there and then realized she has a picture of all of us dresses as the Wizard of Oz characters on her phone. Amazing how many people know him. Regardless i think he worked wonders.

They just moved Ann out of her Intermediate Care room into a private standard hospital room. No more monitors or IV hook ups. They are hoping they can send her home on Tuesday but we are still far from over as she will still need to make frequent doctor visits and get on the transplant list. Both of us would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and all the help many of you provided us these last few very difficult weeks. We have some amazing friends. Please keep the prayers coming as Ann still has a long ways to go but I thank God he did not take her when he very easily could have and hope that he has moved on. As I said a couple weeks ago I was not going to give her up without one hell of a fight and fight we did."

After 22 mostly difficult days in the hospital Ann is finally home and resting comfortably. The road ahead will be a difficult one but we will find a way to get through it. We have her up to 116 pounds and hope to get her back to 125 excluding the water weight.

I want to sincerely thank everyone who offered their help, sent cards, flowers, notes, calls, donations and visits. This meant a great deal to us and also helped me manage the situation better. When I am able I intend to thank each and every one of you individually who sent cards, flowers, helped me at the hospital and donations. Our appreciation is indiscribable and we cannot thank you enough. The boys and I are glad to have her home.

We have been unable to work for the last 4 weeks so we were without income and I need to get back to work starting Monday. Those of you who had offered to help previously, this is where you can help with checking on her or minor errands though we would still like everyone to continue praying. Thank you all very much! We have some extraordinary friends."

Great news!!

After 5 weeks away from the shop I finally felt comfortable enough today to run up to the shop and get on the computer for a couple of hours. I wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers as without them I do not believe Annie would have survived this ordeal. She is definitely a fighter as the doctors were unsure if she would even survive the first night in the ER. I am a first responder and when I saw he stats on the monitor when they hooked her up I went into a complete panic as she had bottomed out yet Annie being Annie acted as though all it was was a bad flu.

I cannot thank those enough who called, texted, prayed, emailed, sent flowers, donations, care packages and offers of food for me as well as running errands. Also to those who visited us in the hospital. It was very much a welcome sight to see some of our friends who came and took me out of the room if for even a few moments. Some of you even stood watch over her at the hospital so I could run the 40 mile round trip three times a day to take care of the dogs and horse. For those of you who offered to run and take care of the dogs for me, I valued your friendship too much to burden you with that one plus I wanted to see you again...... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif

She is now home and resting and trying hard to regain her strength and appetite. As of this morning she was up to 117 lbs so at least she is progressing. The long term outcome has changed a little but is still life threatening. The bad news is the septic infection damaged her liver so severely though not severely enough to get her on the transplant list. The good news is her liver is not damaged enough to get her on the transplant list. Go figure. If I follow the national guidelines for liver transplant recipients she will never live long enough to see one so it can sometimes be a lose/lose situation. We do have a married couple who have both offered to transplant half a liver (GOD BLESS THEM) so that may change things a little.

Annie wanted me to thank each and every one of you for your support and concerns. We will thank you individually as time allows. This has been a forever life changing experience and the future is uncertain. I will be back in the shop as of tomorrow but only part time. Thanks to God I have some of the best customers anyone could ever ask for as you have all been very supportive and understanding. Not having that burden on my back has kept me sane for the last three weeks so THANK YOU!
Rick

Awesome news.

BTW if you really want to get an accurate gauge of how she is feeling, tell her that you are posting updates on how much she weighs. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

Rick, I didn't want to say anything until I knew more, but my brother-in-law is also extremely sick with much of the same symptoms. Also septic, tons of fluid, 82/50 blood pressure, chills, debilitating spasms, etc. Today is 6 days in the hospital and finally, the doctors found an antibiotic that combats the infection. We are in Maryland so definitely no connection. I've spoken with him (he respectfully wants no visitors and I know exactly why) and he barely can complete a sentence without losing his breath. This hit him like a freight train. He is also trained as a first responder (retired Balto. City FD Captian) so he knows how serious this really is.
Thank God your wife is on the mend and on the road to recovery. My prayers were with both of you and of course my brother-in-law.
I firmly believe in the power of prayer and positive thinking, and I also believe your dogs were an inspiration for your wife.

Hi Rick,

Great to hear that Annie is feeling better. Baby steps my friend, baby steps. We have been praying all along for a good outcome. Please make sure that you stay rested as well. Be her advocate for everything <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Dave, we hope for the best for your brother in law as well...

Dave, very sorry to hear of your brother-in-law illness as well. That sounds somewhat similar th what Annie has though likely different. They still have a lot of testing to do but at least the septis and sediff infections have been rectified though she still has to be very careful of a reoccurence due to her immune system being so weak. We will both pray for your brother-in-law. Keep us posted.

C-diff (C Difficile colitis) can be a bitch to get over. I still have flare-ups from all the antibiotics pumped into me back in July. Plenty of fluids (touch-n-go with Annie I know) and some probiotics if they're allowed in her restricted diet.

Call if I can help! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Don't know what to say other than to keep up the fight on all fronts.
As always, thoughts and prayers.

I know there is probably nothing we can do for you from here in OK, but if by some chance there is, please don't hesitate to ask.
