Factory M code Dart. Number 161 in the GTS Registry. Rare white on red. This car was restored a few years back. It is a nice driver quality car or slightly better. The engine stamp looks good but the trans is unstamped. Most of the sheet metal looks to be original except the driver's side quarter which I believe has been replaced. All the glass looks original. These are hard to find in good condition. Most were used up or rusted away. Strong runner but those brakes! Car fires right up and sounds great. The radiator is correct but I'm not sure about the driver's side exhaust manifold. It looks right but I can't find the part number. These cars are a lot of fun and really fast. Great bang for the buck. If you combine all the M code Darts and Cudas there were still fewer produced than COPO Camaros. $59,900 or trade. Cell 972-345-9604

What an awesome car Phil! Was the tail stripe originally black? Reason I ask is I had a 68 GTS a few years back and it too was white with red interior but the tail strip was red. If you want, I can post a pic here but I don't want to take away from your add. GLWS

Yes, black is correct on this one. The red stripe looks much better. I saw one like that in a magazine a few years ago. Post the pics.

Ok Phil...again I don't want to take away from Phil's beauty but this is a similar car with a red tail stripe. Phil's car is a 69, mine was a 68. Sometimes I wish I would have hung onto this one.

These M code Darts are amazing. Kinda like a 396/375 Nova, but much, much rarer and unique. Only a little over 600 M codes ever made. Mine will be at the AACA nationals in Williamsport this year. Going for Grand National judging. Phil's car is very fairly priced IMO - wish that I didn't already have one. :-)

I think they are more like a 427 nova, than an L78 nova. I mean look at that displacement! Its a 440! These are great cars and it sure looks good in B5 blue and white! I wish I could take one for a spin someday just to see how they drive.
Good luck with the sale.

The 383 and 440 Darts had some crazy looking manifolds to make them fit in the engine bay. The driver's side manifold has a unique S-curve that allows the steering column to clear the outlet portion of the manifold. I would venture a guess that if you can steer the car, it has the correct manifold. A regular manifold won't allow the column the straight path it needs to get to the manual steering box.
Do you have an underside photo of the area?
BTW, Awesome car! Unbelievable power to weight ratio - like a 427 Nova, if not lighter still.

I had one a while back, it had headers and a cam. It was wicked powerful. Couldn't think of getting all that tq to hook in first or second gear. It felt very fast.
Technically.....this is the car Mr Norm team, designed and built to compete with the NicKey Camaros.

----Arlen Vanke was given a black 67 notchback Cuda and a 440 to explore the same possibilities. After all its trials it was given to Arlen. I'm not sure, but I think he sold it to a kid who wadded it up into a ball. That car was also a beast as you can imagine with Arlen twisting the wrenches as well as beating the firewall to death with the throttle pedal!!!.....Bill S

Great looking '68. I love the red stripe. Steve, I don't believe the casting number is there but the steering shaft and coupler clear. I think the 383 manifold is similar and I wonder if repops have ever been made. Something interesting on this car is the metal tag by the oil filter that reads M63HP. There is also a sticker in the glove box with emergency numbers for towing etc. The dealership was Northland in Colombus, Ohio and an identical car with one digit higher order number and vin number was sold there too.

Northland Dodge was torn down 2 years ago. I went there a lot as a kid with my dad. It's where my dad was able to get his 70 Hemi Cuda. I live 25 minutes from there.

These cars were produced in 3 batches of about 200 cars each. Only produced on 3 days in 1969 model year.

Are those running totals, or daily production numbers? If daily production, I don't believe that 1427 produced is correct, but not worth fussing about.

I don't think they are production totals....just a numerical expression of the production date. i.e., 212 is February 12th, 214 is February 14th, etc.

Congrats on selling the car! M code Darts are tough to put a price on.....I think that was fair money for both parties.

I thought Charley was going to lock these threads once the car has SOLD. Send a PM
... He may leave it up to the person that placed the ad. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif
... I would think that the seller should have a choice in that. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/flag.gif

Thread is locked. Why not continue/start a thread in the Mopar forum....
