Guy near me grew up with the car. His uncle owned it and his dad drove it at PID. Last he heard the guy who bought it at the auction in Steubenville died.
Is the car restored or still in race trim?

Neat, neat car. Would have loved to see it stay in original as-raced condition. But, a cool car in any case! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/3gears.gif
I have forgotten why the orig owner ran SS tail panel on this COPO. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Just confirmed from Dave the car was sold to Colorado, restored back to stock and then sold 6 months later.
NNNOOOOOOOOOO!!! One car that should have been left alone.

I really thought that was the idea back when bought to leave it alone and clean it up or restore back to its racing days.
Now it is probably just another over restored camaro with all its history gone. Always about the buck I bet.
If that was the case,I just can't see the "Ratical One" being worth more today money in factory stock condition, versus how as it was bought @ that auction back then....just can't.
Plus that auction was right when the economy was seriously tanking. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif

The original owner was Doug Evancic...he sold it to his friend (Italian guy) in Steubenville Ohio...that guy died and his family had a public auction...while at the auction we met the owners nephew and the original owner Doug Evancic...the car had 4,004 miles on the odometer...and retained its BE Housing only... We brought the car home to Columbus. It stayed here for 1 year and sold to Marvin James of Flaggstaff Arizona. Marvin decided to restore the car and took 2 years to do so. Once restored he sold the car to Mike Kaisers friend from Phoenix Arizona. Within 3 days of getting home from delivering the car to Phoenix ...Marvin was shot and killed by his girlfriend at his home.

That's her mug shot ...sad deal for all. They have a 3 year old son together and she gave birth to their second child just 3 days after being arrested and in custody. It happened last February

Sept. '71 Newspaper clipping from Grandview Dragway w/ the Ratical One noted in the Feature listing.
A few other cool cars listed too, anyone know of the Wells Bros 427 Nova?

I was fortunate enough to see the car after Doug bought it at auction in it's non restored, old day 2 state. This was one heck of a neat Camaro!! I have to agree, I would have not restored the car myself.. It was very cool in the old day 2 condition..

For the folks that have Facebook, Dave McGaffee posted some cool pics of the Ratical One under the 1969 Vintage Camaro Page. There are pics when the cars was new and as found at the auction. I think you might even get a glimpse of Doug Perry one of the pics!!

I remember possibly this COPO Camaro selling and the new owner finding the BE stamp under grease and covering the mark back up after checking it out?

Here are the pictures Bruce took....hope you don't mind that I brought them over here Bruce.
All I have to say is the car looks fantastic but now it's just another restored car. This car was amazing looking and had a lot of history in race form. I agree with Rick, that it's probably worth no more than now than is race trim. What a waste....IMO and apparently a lot of others minds too.

All the car needed was a light cleaning and the correct vintage slots in the rear and it would have looked just like it did back in the day.......sorry for the rant but the history is gone now. IMO

I took many pictures of this car when it was brought back to Columbus, and they were mostly posted here back in September of 2009. Here's one that was never posted.

That's Doug with his back to the camera. Jerry Heasley wrote a story about this car in one of his many "Barn Find" books.

At least the car is displayed with photos of how cool it USED to be. Where I would've spent an hour (at least!) looking at it in race livery, I wouldn't even stop to look at it now.

What color is that suppose to be? I really don't like to pass judgment on shade/color through pics but that doesn't look like Fathom nor Ralley green?
m22mike
01-18-2016, 12:28 PM
Dan, the car was Fathom Green as built, and I think it looks odd <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif in the photos form the Pavilions. Maybe the guys that saw it can comment.

It looked like a very nicely done resto except for the Polyglas tires and no poverty caps. He has the caps but isn't ready to scratch the rims just yet putting them on. I think he said almost all of the interior is orig. I did not think the Fathom green color was off when looking at it but I wasn't looking for it.

FYI, when I saw this car at Doug's place in Columbus the one thing that stood out was the interior, it was dirty but everything was like new, the pebble grain wheel was outstanding too.
Now that you mentioned it Charley, I don't get the polyglass tires... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/sick.gif

I don't mean to jump on the bandwagon, but now it's just another face in the crowd. It looked so much cooler in ready to race form. Atleast there is some tribute to its past on the plate. I couldn't afford to own so my opinion is just an opinion
Just grateful Doug & Andy had the presence of mind to take those beautiful vibrant photos @ auction a few years ago, before it was restored.
Nothing wrong with restoring a car back to stock, but this one clearly shouldn't have been.

To me, that's like saying Miss California at the Miss America Pageant is "just another face in the crowd."
Maybe so, but that's one hell of a crowd!
