This is the car from Toledo that was sold to this guy in Richmond almost a year ago. The other owner was Mike Zimmerman. The car is crusty There is a photo of it at used car lot from years ago with cool hubcaps. Mike sold the car between 65-70 K. He called me and we talked prior to the sale

I'd probably make some room in the garage for that....

That's a MD car that Skip Lecates used to own. It was recently discussed on the site.

Where on this site was this car discussed before?
I'm aware of the red deuce and orange Z/28 Skip found, but not this COPO Camaro.

Here's the Z.. http://www.hotrod.com/cars/barn-finds/1411-rare-finds-1969-chevy-camaro-z28/

COPO CARTEL...When did you see the car last to know it's crusty or how crusty it is?

COPO CARTEL
01-10-2016, 06:25 PM
Mark Bulaw here on the site visually inspected the car in the last 2-3 years....Skip sold the car to Mike Zimmerman about 11-15 years ago ...the car was in Hemmings I think back then

69RSCOPO
01-10-2016, 07:32 PM
yes I know all about the history of the car..The car is actually in extremely good shape to have been sitting since the 70's. There is no rust at all except for two little surface spots.

So in one post it is "crusty" but in another post no rust at all except two little surface spots ?

69RSCOPO

I never said the car is crusty. I was just asking how he knew it was crusty being he never seen the car. Yes the car has been sitting since the 70's and yes the car needs a full resto..I never said it didn't, but this car is incredible shape to have not been on the road is so long. Hopefully Skip can put a little insight into this. I'm not trying to be argumentative I just hate to see people down the car when they have not seen it, nor do they know the shape of it. It really is a great car to start with compared to some cars that have been outside in the elements for 20+ years..I'm really starting to consider on just keeping it being it needs no metal replacement what so ever.

Charley Lillard

I know you didn't say it was crusty, CopoCartel said it. We have two people giving to me what sounds like two very different opinions...

Please show pics of the Rearend stamping ....I remember Mike telling me about how they added some stamping from the factory ...I based my opinion on what was told to me by Mark Bukaw who visually saw the car with Jim Pearse ...and you had 1-2 phone conversations with Mark...I was told. The Hemmings ad was 1997 for 20k I think. Mark had said since Mike lived in a trailer the car was very poorly stored. The car was misrepresented to a few of us by Mike.... I was told by Mike that the motor and rear was real to the car. If it was drag raced as hard as I was told then the drivetrain almost never survives.

Does this car have a 120 mph speedo?

69RSCOPO
01-11-2016, 01:31 AM
Yes it is 120 Speedo...Mr. Perry I really don't see how Mike's living situation or where he lives has anything to do with this car or thread. Matter of fact Mike has an amazing garage and I would really love to have it myself. Also Mike is not in this thread so he is not here to defend himself so I feel his name does not need to brought into this. Mark Bukaw is extremely nice and has always went out of his way to speak with me when I have called him, but I'm pretty sure he would not like people posting things he has said in private over the phone with you or anyone for that matter. I'm not sure how this thread got so far off subject or how it got to be a "Mike Zimmerman Bashing Match" but I really wish we would just stop. Mike has never lied to me or done anything wrong as well as I do not understand why Mark's name is being brought into this thread. Another thing is I don't know what the car sold for in 1997, nor do I really care being that was 20 years ago. In my opinion this car is not junk and would make a really good car for someone that is wanting a COPO. The car has had multiple 75k offers, but I may have decided to keep it. To everyone that posted positive comments, thanks.

P.S. I don't see the point in taking a bunch of pictures for someone who has no interest in even buying the car. Thanks & God Bless

I am merely stating the facts as presented to me by Mike and Mark.... Mark and I are friends and have spoken today twice about this thread.....Mark had said you spoke last week ...I am glad you are keeping the car....please enjoy ...all of us on this site enjoy cool cars and would love to see more detailed photos of the car.

You had said an hour ago that you might have decided to keep the car. I just received a text ..that M.K. from Arizona bought the car earlier today ...10k mile cars don't look like that and it's been painted. Looks like the transaction is done. Can anyone fill in the data for the registry? So far I have:

VIN - 124379N665177

L72?, M40, X11?

is there original factory/dealer paperwork?

is the Ownership history from 1997 only?

any Certifications?

I'd like to add it to the registry, but need good pictures of the TT & more back-up data. Not any chance that it was born without L72 (maybe L78 or other) is there?

Thanks, your friendly, well paid, Registrar

Thanks for defending Mikes integrity...I'm the guy who made the posting on craigslist for the car before he sold it as he was having issues with his computer etc...He didn't make any statements about the engine being original to the car or original paint either. the original rear end housing is in the car but gears were changed by a former owner and the scratched a code on it for them and the BE code is still there....

I have a message from him now that he wants me to copy and paste for him...."Them are not the fact's! All info on the car was presented 100% to the best of my knowledge the rear end was not restamped and never told so when the Hesketts had it the went from 410 to 4.88 then sold the second owner went from 4.88 to 373 and the scribed over the BE which is visable and that is what I told them!" and then this..."
The rear end is correct but never restamped from the factory it was scribed over like alittle kid did it when they installed the 373

I'am highly Pissed to have my name drug threw the mud! especialy on a open forum for every one in the world to see!!!

No one killed the sale of this car ...it was quietly for sale by Mike for over a year and there were people on this board that passed on the car . Some whom visually seen the car . Their was no swooping in per say with this particular car.

So "If you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all" but Mr. Perry you seem to not be able to let it go. Yes no one killed the sale of this car, pretty sure though you didn't help the sell either. I still cannot understand why you felt it was necessary to bring Mike Zimmerman's living situation into this forum. Also you downed a car that you have never seen and downed a gentleman that you barely know. Now you said that you was only repeating what Mark Bukaw said. I really feel bad for Mark because I'm sure he meant to keep that conversation between you and him. I would like to go on record by saying that Mark has never said a bad thing to me and has always been very nice. Another thing is Mike Zimmerman has to be one of the nicest people I have ever met, that man would literally give his shirt off his back for someone, and then you come on here and down him. It just blows my mind that a grown man would act that way. This will be my last post on the situation as well as most likely my last post here. I really feel that moderators should have stepped forward and deleted some of those nasty comments, but hey it isn't my forum.

With that off my chest yes everyone the car has sold. I really appreciate everyone's emails and phone calls. Other than Mr. Perry everyone was extremely nice and you all had amazing things to say about the car. My friend and I really hated selling the car but due to medical reasons we didn't have much of a choice. It will always be my honor to say that I owned such a beautiful piece of history and I appreciate Mike for allowing that to happen. Thanks everyone and God Bless...

I was merely telling the truth ...if you can go back and read the posts it says it all . Mike and I have talked on and off since 2006 or 2007. I asked to show more pics. of the ENTIRE car. I wasn't clear if you were the owner or agent (broker) for the owner. As I recall there has been 2 brokers for the car. The way the car was marketed to some people including myself was misleading....that's not being negative it's being honest.

Dan,

I saved the photos and I will be happy to post them unless for some reason someone objects. Open to discussion if someone thinks there is a valid reason I should not post them.

Everyone else,

I was interested in buying the car based on the CL ad, but did not receive a response from the seller to my inquiry.

Other than wanting the car, I have no skin in this game, but was certainly confused by the "car is crusty" comment because I didn't see that there was anything "crusty" about the car in the photos and was thinking there was something I didn't see in the photos.

Regardless, I congratulate the seller for selling a car they wanted to sell and to the buyer for getting a car they wanted.
