Yes we Vintage Certified the car in 2004. The car did achieve our Legend award. The car has complete original drivetrain. The owner should have the judging sheets I would contact him. If he's agreeable I can release them as well. There aren't too many COPO's in this condition. I will say over the years the many owners attempted to enhance its condition.

For that kind of money, I would have to have it re-certified. Many things could have happened to that paint, if its had more than one care taker since judging. If something happens to a car (storage, in and off trailers, etc), you never know if it was made to look like the original survivor state, and if that is the case, you made a big mistake if found later. I think running this car back through judging, would cover that base for me, for that kind of money.
It is a car that anyone would like to have, no doubt.

That car is from Malcolm Konner and I believe the body number is the 1 prior or after the green copo I listed for a friend. I thought?? this car had a full under hood resto last time it was listed on ebay about 6 months ago.

The original hood with the hood pins is still on the east coast. I heard the owner was doing burnouts with the original Tiger Paws a few years ago and blew one of the originals. A great original drivetrain Copo with nice options with great paperwork in a great color. I'd love to own it.

Since it was disclosed, the hood was noted in the 2004 report as well as other changes from as factory delivered.

I agree and after seeing the photo that Chuck posted, I would say that the motor compartment has been restored. Still a neat car though.

I thought it was well bought when it sold, didn't Kevin S sell the car to SS?
I saw photos at one point the engine compartment and it was very very original, every photo I have seen has an original firewall and etc, what if anything is anyone sure of?

what was the reasoning for changing the hood?

I thought when I looked at it that the whole car had been clear coated at one point. I was told by another member that was the case. Paint was definitely to nice for original in my book. It's the nicest 69 I've ever looked at.

I had known this Cool car since the early 80's . Such a great car. I might be mistaken but didn't someone shoot clear over the original paint?
Just read your post Don. Yep I thought so.

That's what I was told. That lacquer clear was applied over the original paint.

I remember it before it was fluffed. Still a great car. Back in the mid 80's I was working a a vette shop in North Jersey and recall the owner putting feelers out to sell at 35K

I guess that's why supercars like this will always be out of my reach. Back in 84-85 People laughed at me and thought I lost my mind when I paid 6 grand for a 70 Ram IV judge with 32,000 miles and bought a Real deal Z16 chevelle for 8 grand. Drove it to work and beat the snot out of it on weekends. Oh well <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/burnout.gif

It appears every owner has tried to make it "nicer" rather than preserving it's originality. If the paint was cleared that's easy to confirm with a polish or fine compound. Still a really nice car....

What has been done to the bottom ?
It was for sale 4-5 auctions ago and it was pretty dirty for 15K miles [mostly original] with a H pipe or some type of aftermarket exhaust if memory serves me correct,I have a pic somewhere . It had around 50-60 pics in the auction at that time. It hasnt been listed with an undercar photo the last 3-4 or so times its been advertised,so maybe its different now? It is a body number off the car my friend has in the for sale section and oddly they are 15K and 20K mile original drivetrain cars from the same dealership. Would be nice for someone to own both. I thought the unrestored engine looked absolutely perfect for the car, rather than the restored engine .

A question: Why would someone paint an engine on a 15K mile car that received a legend award? Did something 'bad' happen to it?
I would think you could rebuild (freshen) an engine keeping the original patina, but why would you not do this? Its like taking a tiffinay lamp and polishing it. The more you polish, the more you detroy the value.
This is a very rare and beautiful car, no doubt. Reminds be of the blue RS ZL-1 everytime I see it (even though that had white top and interior).

I don't think you can compare that 4k mile LS6 to this Copo since the LS6 was slammed pretty hard in an accident and had the resulting sheet metal repairs/new paint work done.

----Mark is correct about the 4k car as I owned it along with a partner when the accident happened (a kid in our shop got T-boned by a drunk). The engine had been out and back in before we got it, and the car had headers as well, smog was gone, etc., etc., etc. But, boy, did it have a beautiful interior. The car was deemed totaled but it was fixed by a guy named Vic Studer (RIP) who was a legendary body guy and painter around the Chicago area for years. Much later the car showed up at a Mecum auction and the paint had gone bad from the car sitting out, but sold and then got re-restored, and maybe re-re-restored. I have lost track, but now the car is a beauty again......Bill S

Amazing how many sYc members have owned this car. When Chad owned it we found the second build sheet in the drivers foot well area where they are commonly located on Arlington cars.
