Any ideas on value? white 4 speed, 19k miles, original drivetrain/ interior/paint/ dealer invoice/protect-o-plate/PHS of course. Options include RAIV, am/fm, tilt, rear defog, space saver. I have not seen any comps except restored cars over recent years. Was at MCACN 4 years or so ago.
Thank you.

$190,000-$250,000+ DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH OF A SURVIVOR IT REALLY IS

It is in really nice shape, hood pins added years ago (don;t want to repair/paint), under body cleaned up beautifully, some detailing under the hood to complete yet. At MCACN show some years ago.

Factory mig wires from relocated spare bracket for space saver.

Very nice. Was it undercoated. What process did you use to clean up the underside?

It was mostly just dirty with some rattle can undercoat in a few areas. I soaked it with Krown oil and most wiped/scrubbed off with plastic brushes/scrapers. I've had completely undercoated cars that required gallons of mineral spirits soaking before the undercoat would move.

Good deal. I have undercoating on my Chevelle that is 47 y.o. and would like to remove it. So, I am asking as many folks as possible what methods they used.

You have a sweet heart of a car there Mark!

Wow. Umm, yeah, it'd take 250K to get that away from me. 275 if it was Lucy Blue. And I am probably low-balling you as a Pontiac high-roller who wanted a survivor in his collection would probably eclipse that number. Find another one, I always say. That is an amazing car. Congrats.

There's nothing like a survivor car. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif I would concur on the value.

My survivor 73 SD looks like that underneath, as is (same mileage, too). My old 1972 T/A took some pressure washing to get off the years of grime but then looked just as nice.

Des, Lucy Blue commands more? So much more?

10-20% is a very consistent difference seen between blue and white cars. I've paid it and I've gotten it.
But this car stands on its own, white or blue, as its a survivor IV 4-speed. To find a blue car that is its equal in condition is unlikely.

Blue was rarer. I think the average color split for 1970 to '72 T/As was around 1/3 of production painted blue and the other 2/3 were white.

Pretty but uncommon colors often bring more. Same holds true for Wimbledon White 69 and Grabber Blue 70 Boss 429s which are the highest production and leave some collectors cold or make them very choosy about condition. My $0.02

Yeah, but sometimes rarer doesn't make a difference - do you think Pastel Blue Boss 429s are in such demand over Grabber Blue ones (the latter being a quasi-signature color for these cars)? And the rarity of Lucerne Blue is quite negligible. Perhaps it is due to people's love for Lucy Blue on other Pontiacs that has helped?

In this case the car only came in two colors: white or blue. And it seems that a lot more white ones were built. In addition, a lot more of the white ones survived than blue ones, for some weird reason. Maybe more "adults" bought the white ones back then and treated them better?

As it pertains to 1970-72 Trans Ams, this is not true. It is more than negligible, especially when you consider - as Steve said - survival rates and what is available on the market. Go to google and punch in "1970-1972 Trans Am for sale" - see what comes back. I bet you can find 10-15 white cars in 2 minutes. If I gave you the same amount of time to find 10-15 Blue cars for sale - current ads that are not repeats, for real code 26 cars - you'd be outta time.

In 1970, they built 63 Polar White Ram Air IV Trans Ams. But only 25 Lucerne Blue cars by the way.

Anecdotal, but I know of two 70 Lucy's within driving distance of my front door. Both look like they've been run through a woodchipper, Fargo-style.

I said "pretty but uncommon". Pastel blue doesn't pass that test.

First of all the metallic colors do not survive nearly as well as the solids. The metallic is Aluminum and it's presence actually makes it so there is less pigment and binder applied, plus once the aluminum metallic is exposed to the elements it will oxidize and thus degrade further.

White does very well, better than many of the other solid colors, probably due to the amount of titanium dioxide in the mixture.

So if white were 3 times as many produced and the factory paint survives at a rate of 2 to 1 or better, then that would be the reason there are so few LBlue cars vs White.

FWIW Mark I was thinking 250k would probably be the number.

If you had 2 collectors bidding maybe 300.
