Found a virgin L88 427 crate engine that was bought new in 71 from GM in a crate and has only 3-4 passes on it. Every piece is still standard and mint.

Are you sure it's not L229? L227 doesn't jive with a 512 block.

It could certainly be a L220 as well , especially if bought new in 1971

No.. L227. Thought it was one of the early 67..512 castings

It probably reads L 22 70, and the "0" looks to be a screw head.

There's a good article in the Corvette Restorer last issue on a 1969 L88 long block that was given to Hilborn Fuel Injection as a test motor. The engine was used a few hours and stored.
It ended up with a friend here in Austin and he purchased a well known '69 L88 to put the motor in.

I'm not sure of the application of yours, but his was built in September of '68 and the motor was quite valuable.

I read that - it was fascinating. Glad it got into an actual L88 car!

As far as the value on the topic engine - I wouldn't want to get any deeper than $7500 into a vintage over-the-counter engine.
