In some places, the undercoating was over an inch thick.

The next two are photos of the bottom side after I cleaned it. It pretty much involved a propane torch, a couple of scrapers, a lot of Purple stuff and then some 3M grease remover (that stuff works great, but if you use it, make sure you have adequate ventilation!).

Here's the "after" with the update subframe installed. I painted the bottom side in low gloss black. I think it came out nicely.

Have you actually done any measuring to see if a carbed LS will fit under a stock Nova hood?
I can tell you a dual plane Gm manifold, on a aluminum Ls3 ,mounted as low as possible( aftermarket shallow front sump area almost touching frame) , using custom engine mounts, along with a L88 drop base air cleaner just barely fit under hood.
There was zero room for any sort of spacer and you needed to run a very short air filter element as well

Amazingly, a BB Chevy in the same chassis, a RPM Airgap, with a 1/2 Nos plate and drop base filter, fits with room to spare!

Good luck

I have built many a LS engine as well have installed them in Novas, Camaros, and Fox body Mustangs
If it LS engine related , i've probably dealt with it at some point

Wayne, don't do an LS swap. We have made quite a bit of power with the OEM dual plane intake, well over 700 and even hitting 800 with the dual plane OEM BBc intake.

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/645188/650-hp-bbc#Post645188

Or get ahold of Mark Jones for one of his pump gas BBc. He too has been high 700Hp range.

Also, as for the rear suspension? Few bits:

Why the rear shackles? With my set=-up in the Nova, they all recommended "roller-bearing slider" over the shackle? But mine a Smiths Racecaft set up. And I would VERY STRONGLY recommend you move the bolt out of the top hole on the front. Nova's tend to want to flip over if you hit it with any real power and hook that car. I've been warned about NOT having wheelie bars and the lower hole with mine? Many say I might trash the front end since these cars hit pretty hard.

Are you, or have you put a bar in the car? Because even the LSX 454 will put this car well into the 9's? You will need a 10 point, 8.50 cage in that to be "legal".

Wayne, I know what you mean. I know my '69 isn't as much as a sleeper as yours, with the Yenko stripes, 10 point cage, and 6+" cowl hood right now (that will be changed). I did build a set of 15X3.5 rallys for it and keeping the rally idea and flat caps.

I too didn't want to drill any extra holes in the car. So for all my switches, I actually put them IN the ash tray. I have 2 fuel pumps, Nitrous ARM, elect, fan and water pump. I even had my gauges fold up UNDER the dash (water temp, oil press, oil temp all elect).

Now it will take some time getting the real sleep look back to the car. But I doubt that 850+Hp and collector mufflers will be very mellow once the car is started. Unlike what your trying to do, I want to see if a pretty much ALL GM equip car ad run in the 8's and still look "stock-ish"? I know we could get there with a single plane intake, but the dual is the challenge. Like I said in another post, we spent HOURS getting 3 more CFM out of the intake. Lets just say my "074" will out flow BB2+'s on the same bench.

Good luck

I like that design, very clean and super strong! I'm thinking of the brake assy's, does running the bolts for the backing plates / bearing retainers into the brake area create any interference? I know the factory runs them the other direction, although it looks cleaner your way.

Wayne, if the 275 on YOUR 8" wheels, how much space is on each side of the tire? (how tight are these tires??)

Also, I know most will laugh or figure what the f@#k, but how id YOU measure your offset? I have the same tire for my '69 and just wondering the best way to fit them?

Wayne, all pictures disappeared???

On the Nova rear, I have a question:

I'm going to be ordering some 35 spline stuff. I'm thinking about changing from the '69 axles to the 66 axles to narrow the rear a bit and gain some RIM clearance. What do you think? I just think it will balance off the wheel a bit more then the deep offset that you run (5+ inches in your case) and then maybe be able to run a OEM 8" Vette rally??? Since I'm buying axles anyway, it might save me from also buy another set of rims with the deep offset?

THOUGHTS?

Ok thanks Wayne, will do. I have M-W in my "good" stuff, this one will be fine with Moser. It's only about 800Hp so we should be good.

Now my good stuff, we run M-W 40 spline gun-drilled axles, sheetmetal housing, Dewco center and Performance ceramic bearings throughout. Even CF brakes came from M-W.
