I was talking on the phone with Woj the other day, and the subject was brought up about finding stuff in these old cars that are, well, let's say, not exactly "required duty" items. Buildsheets (Broadcast sheets for us Mopar dudes <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif ), data punch cards, tags, etc. Common stuff to find. But ever find anything neat? I have, and the funny thing is it was the same item from two different manufacturers! So, I'm aviating the globe with a fellow pilot, and he says, "Building a Roadrunner, huh?" And I say, "Yuh-huh." He says, "I have an old Dodge I bought in 1968." So I casually rebuttle, "MMmmmmmm...mmhhmmmmm.....hmmm" He replies, "Yeah, it's a Charger...an R/T." And in my best unexcited, unenthusiastic, dull, and mundane tone, respond with, "Ah..mmhmmm..mmhmmm....." He adds, "I have all the paperwork from when I ordered it, it's unrestored and sitting in my garage." Me, "(crickets sounding)" Him, "It's been sitting in my garage for 25yrs, and I'm looking for someone to restore it. Wanna do it for me? Dave...? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif" Me: "(Sound of heart monitor flat lining....) (cough, cough) AHEM!!! Oh, uh, excuse me. Yeah, sure, I'll takes a lookie at it, I guess....." So, long story short, I restored the car and while taking up the carpet, found this old Chrysler paper coffee cup under the carpet! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2016/04/full-18993-42578-dans_car_2_011.jpg

Of course, it's still stained with what appears to be (sniff sniff) Folger's Crystals. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif Pretty cool!
Then, while working on a 1951 Chevy truck, I pull the gastank, and what do I find? Another Coffee Cup!!!!!!

Pretty neat to find these things. So, what have you found? Oh, and under the back seat carpet on the Charger revealed a quarter dated 1968. Dan never had anyone in the back seat of that Charger, so I think that might have been there all along too! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif
Cheers <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif
PS: Dan got the cup and the Broadcast sheet back, but Rick didn't want the coffee cup from the truck, so on the shelf it sits!

I found a quarter underneath one of my sound deadener pads in my 69. I'm pretty sure it's been there since 69... It's going back under when I do the final button up lol

Back in the day, I was 16 years old and working after school and during summer vacation at a Buick/Pontiac dealership. A customer brought has new 61' Buick back to get a noise checked out in the back of the car. The bodyshop manager took the car for a test run and in fact there was a noise in the area of the trunk -- sounded like a rock rolling around in the trunk. He checked out that area and found nothing. Took it for another ride and noise was still there. He then told me to get into the trunk and he took the car for a test run and I heard the noise right under the trunk -- something was in the gas tank. A new tank was ordered and installed. The bodyshop manager filled the tank with water and proceeded to cut a hole in it (factory warranty rep standing over his shoulder) to see what the hell the noise was. During assembly of the tank, "someone" decided to drop a Coke bottle into the tank ... Thats my "What have you found in a car" story. TAZ <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/headbang.gif

Found this piece of the wet sand paper that GM used in their bodyshop in a 63 Chevy II. It still had the orange adhesive sprayed on it where they glued down the sound deadener and carpet.

Back in the 80's I bought a 69 camaro out of a junkyard in Phila. The car was filled with clothes, books, and trash in the back seat. When I cleaned it out, it seemed that the car may have had a shady past. Apparently someone had dropped a seed as there was a 2 inch 'plant' growing out of the carpet !!

Removed the original carpet from my 1960 Chrysler 300 in 2002 and found a 1958 dated nickel on the floor. It must have been dropped by a line worker. Couldn't help but think when he went to the pop machine on his break and couldn't locate his drink money.
I found a section of the Cincinnati Inquirer dated for June 5, 1969, under the driver's side carpet in my '69 Camaro. The car is dated 6A.

Wow! Very cool guys. Phil, is that red band a section of headliner? They did that on the Mopars as well. I had two samples of mine hanging from the trunk torsion bars and one under the back seat.
Tracker....Dan's was a 68. Things didn't heat up for the Charger until 69....Oh!!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/drool.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/whistle.gif

Dave,
That is a piece of headliner. They weren't very neat about the trimmings.

An extra side marker bezel painted in Cameo white and placed under the rear seat, mastic sound deadener by the Norwood employees. Most likely close to the infamous UAW strike date in early 1972. Must have made for an impossible to find rattle when new.

My brother found this rust proofed coffee cup in the door of his 67 Impala. It had a few bolts in it for added driver enjoyment.
Too bad build sheets aren't as plentiful as used coffee cups.

NO coffee cups, but a couple drive-in movie tickets, about 45.cents in change, S&S green stamps and a baggie with some hash cubes.
Oh, and this was also in the trunk.

----My toolbox has been the recipient of many finds over the years. Back in 1974 I ordered a new Corvette coupe. When I picked it up I drove straight home and started cleaning it up. While vacuuming the rear compartment I felt a lump under the carpet. Pulled the carpet up and found a two inch high pile of nuts and bolts......Bill S

Back in January of 1993 I was able to document the build of the Viper (Vin #102) that eventually became our Project Pit Viper for Mopar Muscle Magazine. Right when this photo was being taken the guys stepped away while installing some components in the trunk. The assembly line tech with the mustache left his 1/4" drive Snap On ratchet in the trunk and I didn't discover it until the car was delivered and I did the dealer prep on it. (That was a conditon of buying it for my dealer - I was going to be there to document every sticker and wrapper that came off that car). I have that wrench in the safe deposit box along with every single piece of paper, sticker and wrapper that came off the car. I contacted the assembly line foreman and offered to return the wrench but he said to keep it with their compliments.

It wasn't my car thankfully, but when my father was a kid going through junkyards he found a shoe on the back floor of a totaled car. Unfortunately that shoe wasn't empty. Some poor SOB lost their foot in a recent accident and for some reason nobody looked through the car to find it. I guess the car was crushed pretty bad. Sounded like a fatality for sure.

We got a few of the cars out this past weekend from their winter quarters. While washing the 70 Orange Cooler Nova I noticed a 'peach pit' sitting in the rain gutter of the front cowl. It must have been in the hood and fallen out when I opened the hood to finish drying the car. This is one of the many Georgia momentos that came with the car from my buddy "lowmile".

I was ready to call 'foul' on your peach pit story until you mentioned 'lowmile'!! That orange Nova was found in Texas, I think it was sold new from Mustang Chev, perhaps in San Antonia (??), so I'd think you'd find something cowboy related....

Mark lives in Georgia...he has plenty of peach pits!
Car was sold at Mustang Chevy in San Angelo, Texas.
The original owner was a cowboy...he looked like a weather beaten Randolph Scott.

I was helping my brother clean out his newly acquired '64 Nova years ago. The car was built at the Van Nuys plant and lived most of it's life there, only blocks from the dealership. The car is now living in Western NY. When we dug under the seats we found a well dried out lemon! It probably fell out of a bag during the original owners care. Oh, there was an old Readers Digest too. I forgot the date on that.

I just went and looked at a 1972 GTO that has been sitting in the woods for 30 years. Untouched original car. There was more 1970's drug paraphernalia inside than I've ever seen. 4-5 containers with seeds, psychedelic smoking pipes, cooking spoons, you name it.

----Dave,,,You reminded me of a day at work at my Dads hardware store back in about 1962. My cousin, Dave, and I were going to lunch and our routine was to go thru the backyard of the local (small) Ford dealer. We noticed a new wreck in the yard, and as it was a 57 Chebby we thought we would take a look. My cousin looked in from what was left of the drivers side, and I looked thru the passenger window. Underneath the drivers door opener was the drivers thumb. At least I thought it was a thumb as we were totally grossed out and left the lot pretty quickly. Lunch was a barrel of laughs.......Bill S

We picked up a 1970 coronet 500 for test fitting parts and when got into taking the dash apart
we found an old metal weed pipe stashed in the dash. Looked like it was an "Oh crap the cops" kind of ditch and then in the trunk up behind the spare tire we found an old miller lite pop top style can the was never opened but the liquid had seeped out through a hole in the side of the can... Again another Oh crap kind of ditch
