Here is some pictures of a l78 I recently bought I've wanted this car for years finally pulled the trigger. The car has unusual options for a l78 pw and lots of other cool stuff not usually found on l78 cars. It also has a m21 with BU 373 posi .the original motor was pulled in the early 80s to freshen it up. The owner planed to restore the car so he pulled some parts off and there it sat. After buying the car my buddy started looking for the original owner that was on the pop .He found Richard Cadway in Sandiago when you type his name in Google a realtor standing next to his Lexus came up and I thought this is him .Rich was very surprised when I called him up I was more surprised to find out he had all the original dealer invoices order form and window sticker. He told me how he went to village Chevy in New York to buy a Camaro and the salesman Pete Dodds tried to sell him a Copo but he had to have a convert so they special ordered this car he stated "I ordered every option I could get " he then told me how he built a custom luggage rack for the trunk for his road trip he took to Califonia and he even stopped at the plant in Norwood to see the cars birthplace. He said he didn't order better wheels cause he was going to put craigers on it .i wanted to put the car back together and clean it up before posting pictures but I no we all love as found pictures so he we go http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2016/05/full-12049-43016-image.jpg

Unbelievable! Glad someone like yourself got this jewel, because it appears from your list of cars that you have an appreciation for originality and leaving the car "as found" except for getting it drive-able and safe. It would be a sin, IMO, to fluff such an interesting car and the back story is priceless...wish it were me placing this original post! Good luck. One last observation: I have seen a fair amount of heavily optioned 69s from "the day" and find it amazing that many of those have no D80 (spoilers) and standard wheels. I understand the wheels because of the aftermarket availability. I imagine the spoiler idea was probably not accepted by many as it was a fairly new item on a car and public opinion had not 'caught on'to the idea.

Here is a email from the original owner after several great phone calls back and forth he found the paperwork to the car . At first he was going to give me all the stuff once he found it a hefty fee was attached . It took a few months for him to give me a price but finally told me the price I quickly made a deal and flew to Sandiago to meet him and get the paper work

Great new addition Dave. If you purchased that from who I think you did it is an even better score as he does not sell many cars and tough enough to get parts from. He had a survivor L89 convert the last time I talked to him.

I agree with Bill, you two could be brothers!

protree68
05-01-2016, 05:32 PM
Rick the guy I bought it from liked to tell guys it was a l89 but really its a l78 and it was a real pain getting the parts from the guy I flew to Los angeles every Friday after work 4 weekends in a row sometimes getting home at 1am on Sunday then worked the next day . Digging for all the parts every time I was there . the owner would say we will dig out parts this week for you but he never did . After I had a pile of plastic tubs full my buddy in the picture Jim drove my truck out and we loaded the car and parts and hit the road .

The fact that the original owner had the order sheet, window sticker, and invoice was unbelievable, he had driven from NY to CA in 69... vigil-light, VE3, dlx int pw, pt, ps, pb, L78, M21, performance axle ratio (included HD curve neck rad) other than ZL2 and D80 the car is the best equipped L78 conv I had ever seen. The POP was with the car however after we found the original owner & Window Sticker that is when it all came together as to it's documented rarity.

Spoke to Jim today. Late 80's as he remembers. He paid 3K for it. He reminded me I wanted to trade him a 60K mile Fathom Green 69 SS RS 350, 4 speed, green deluxe interior Camaro that I bought from the orig. owners here in town. Still the closest to a new 69 Camaro I have ever driven. Was like a new car. He hated Fathom green so he traded Merle for a Rally Green Z28 that was apart. Made a couple grand and moved on.

Could you please provide more pictures of the black tail panel area? I would like to see several pics of the gloss, straight on shot in natural light. The area around the tail panel, every area were the black terminates (behind bumper, trunk lip, outer edges of t. panel, please. This would also provide a reference to the trunk seal orientation. Most I have seen are to the left of center. Thank you.

It appears there is a tape line around the stripes on the drivers door ? Can we assume that door has been repainted ?

Yes sir, the door and drivers fender were painted. they left the original stripe and painted around it.

The trunk seal terminates in the center. the orange stripe is slightly offset to the left, most I have seen are offset to the right.

The Yenko really shows the gloss level much better, this car sat exposed for so long that it was chalky.

Is there any chance that I can see some shots on how the VE3 bumper fits at the ends? For comparison purposes. I figure with this car being as original as it is it will make for a good reference point

Man!, what a car! I think I have to agree with installing Cragars on that car; not just ANY Cragars, but correct ones. I, too, had a very similar situation when I bought my '69 W-31. After the purchase, I found the original owner and he still had every piece of original paperwork, sans the window sticker. Fortunately, my stuff wasn't held hostage! I knew EXACTLY what car it was ("hiding" in plain sight)and bought it immediately, but the paperwork sure was a great addition. Funny how things have changed over the years, but I think we all have stories about selling cars making a few bucks, that later we wished we hadn't.

James great job locating the owner, paper work, and the level of detail you shared in the pictures.

----This is probably the most unlikely 69 Camaro to ever be delivered with dog-dish caps. Because of the extensive option list the caps just seem so out of place. Obviously this great Camaro was a customer ordered car. I could understand the desire to put a set of Cragar's back on the car, but I'm not a big Cragar fan on Camaros (just me). Id rather see some higher end wheels if there even is a desire to upgrade, but that is obviously an owner decision! But,,,what a great Camaro, just awesome!!!!.....Bill S

I love it just like that. No spoilers, no Rallys, no cowl hood, no Z stripes. I'll bet it really throws the average cruise-in/car show Camaro enthusiast for a loop.
