Anyone know the current owner of the 70 Chevelle "Red Alert?" Looking for owner or anyone with any high res images they took of the car in competition for a book on 70 Chevelles.

That'd be great. If you took any quality photos or know someone who did of Red Alert in action in its racing days I could use a couple. Contact me offline if you would at [email protected]

Interesting find on Facebook tonight. Guy buys out a huge parts collection. In it are some bucket seats and there he later finds a buildsheet to an LS6. He posts a photo of the sheet and lo and behold I recognize it as belonging to Red Alert. Now THAT is a cool find! I hope he reunites it with the current owner.

----Rick,,,Shortly after bringing Red Alert back to my shop on Cape Cod in 1990 I took out the front seat to have a seam re-stitched. I looked underneath and there was a beautiful build sheet. The interior guy took the seat apart and carefully removed the build sheet. We were both really surprised to see that it belonged to a Malibu small block convertible. With a bit of thought we figured out that the Malibu was a few serial numbers after RA. The installer must have picked up the wrong seat.
----Really cool to hear about this build sheet. I wonder what serial number it is. Pretty sure the present owner would want it. Red was an early December car as close as I can recollect.....Bill S

Unfortunately he wants to sell it. Cant say I blame him but I hope he does not hold the owner hostage. It's cool but doubt it would add a ton of money to the car.

The Photo is enough if I owned the car. Its great the Facebook poster found it and he should be able to sell it as his reward for saving it. But for a fair price. I would say 500-1000 Maximum is a fair price and it would be worth it to me. Anything more, I would keep the photo posted on FB. Its not worth anything but to the owner of the car.

----When Terry and I went to AMT in 1993 for them to make a run of Red Alert models (5000 of them) Terry was given the job of doing the box design and some extras. We made a window sticker and a build sheet. These were to be included with the model as an extra incentive. They looked pretty good but some guys on another website got on my case about fonts and other minor discrepancies. I kept telling them that we knew that and it really wasn't that big a deal. I finally gave up and left that sight, never to return!...….Bill S

When I was cleaning out the basement yesterday I ran across those - the window sticker has your signature on it.

Terry tasked me with getting the codes to fill in the buildsheet. He knew I had a large collection of sheets to work from.

I think I've mentioned previously but worth repeating.......Our first trip to Bloomington in 1980 as kids - Dave rode shotgun with Terry in a maroon 69 L89 Corvette Coupe (Dave was 7 years old). I was 10 and rode shotgun in Bill's silver LS6 coupe. Great memories!

The car is probably just like you remember, it was never restored. I met Terry at Bloomington in 2002 and he was so happy to see the car just as he remembered. Here is a link from a mag article on the car. I would love some pics if you happen to find any. https://www.corvette-mag.com/issues/72/articles/against-all-odds

----Terry put the L89 thru judging whatever the year it was That the Dykstras mentioned and tasked me to detail it. I forgot to put the nuts back on the rear Corvette letters and they remained on but the judges caught the lack of nuts and Terry got pissed off at me. I do have a picture of Terry trying to put the nuts back on with me standing beside the car. If you knew Terry he was completely incompetent in the mechanical area. He absolutely lived for all types of cars but could hardly change a tire. He was a very close and good friend. If you want I will make a copy of it the pic for you.
----Of course you already know what a great car it was. Good to know where it is and in safe, caring hands!..….Bill S

Another funny Terry story : after he bought the car, he had all the original paperwork for the car ( window and tank stickers, dealer invoice ,POP, etc) in a briefcase when he decided to stop off at a pub for a cold one. When he left, he forgot the briefcase. Hours later in a complete panic , he raced back to the pub and found the briefcase just where he left it !! He was much more colorful in telling this story than me !! We had a good chuckle.

The Terry stories would probably never end. I was with Terrys cousin at the Barrett Jackson auction in 2005 when Terry called to announce he purchased a one owner 69 Corvette at the RM auction across town. This was the same year his gold LS6 Chevelle was going through Barrett Jackson and the funds wouldn't be available in time to pay for the Corvette. He called his cousin to ask for a loan until the Chevelle funds came in. Of course, Steve loaned him the money and actually owned half the car until Terry bought out his half. Terry needed my help to get the car back to the Barrett Jackson parking lot for transit home to Illinois. Terry drove the car in the pouring rain from RM to Barrett Jackson and through the muddy parking lot to the transport. I followed in the rental car. In 2006 Terry wanted to get the car judged at San Antonio Nationals so he sent the car to Austin for me to garage until the auction. He forgot to sign the car up for the Nationals and in January of 2007 he passed away while the car was still in my garage. Dana Mecum really did a nice thing, he and Terry were friends for a long time. Dana sold all of Terrys cars at auction with the proceeds going to Terrys daughter. He had the car shipped to the auction from my house and it sold for lots of money at the Terry Carney estate sale.

----Silver LS6 was my 71 Corvette. Beautiful original car with the right options. Only thing I could have wanted more was deluxe interior. One of probably the top five best driving Corvettes I ever had. Another is sitting in my garage for the second time in 46 years!

----Tim,,,That was my last experience with BJ. I had a great 6:30 Friday time but because several dealers ahead of me added extra cars our LS6 didn't go off until 10:30. Nobody there except the buyer, me, and one drunk. The car should have brought $20,000 more. I felt bad for Terry..... Oh well, live and learn...….Bill S

I remember that, also. Terry thought he'd have enough $$ from the LS6 to cover the full money his cousin loaned him. He could only come up with half to pay him back. Our Austin group hung out until 9:30 to watch the car go through, we couldn't hang out any longer or there would have been about five more drunks there.

----We were so disappointed! If you remember, I did a heck of a bunch of work to that car to get it ready for auction. The whole nose was off, engine was rebuilt, complete correct exhaust, detailed to the max, etc, etc! There were probably 4 LS6's there and that one was by far the best. At least two of the others went for more money......Bill S
