thought you guys would like to see this original marking from a burnished brown rs copo dave tinell did for carl dwiggens many years ago. it was sold and went to Canada in the 80,s. Dave is a good friend and he gave it to me a few years ago. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2016/05/full-13984-44100-dsc_0085.jpg

Now that's a nice little piece of garage art. Jealous!

Very cool. I have a 69 Chevelle previously owned by Carl. He was in the right place at the right time with the right knowledge for this hobby.

Thanks for posting.

hey Mark that's ok if they do. at least people will know a correct marking. you can tell that it is written upside down when installed. I found a copo once and on the way home took it by Daves to see if he could show me something more to confirm it was a copo (all the running gear was already gone but big block heater core, cowl hood with correct harness and hole in firewall and x11 code and original non drilled fenders for emblems were still on it) and the first thing he and joey brown did was show me the upside down 427 that was written on it!

Here is a good explanation on the COPO 427 added to the front fender extension from the CRG. Also explains the use of Camaro and/or Rally Sport fender badging both of which were used on RS COPO's in 1969.

Adaptation of the Camaro chassis (http://www.camaros.org/copo.shtml)

From the last paragraph

This system also explains why Rally Sport COPO's built through June 69 do not have the rally sport fender emblems (later RS COPOs do have the rally sport fender emblems). The &quot;Camaro SS&quot; badging was initially specified and the document &quot;deducted&quot; the SS, leaving only the &quot;Camaro&quot; emblem on the fender. There was no external indication of the engine. Assembly line workers wrote &quot;427&quot; in crayon on the inside of the fender extensions so the fenders would not be pierced for emblems as all other 8 cylinder Camaros were.

Here is one of mine previously posted. 04C COPO
One thing I have never figure out is what the letter after &quot;427&quot; means, it is not always the same. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

I've seen that first hand before, and its obvious the same person always did the writing.

I've seen GR in a ralley sport Z28.
G is the single letter code for Z28 engine option on a body broadcast sheet.

I've seen GM crayoned in style trim Z28s I've owned, thought it might have to do with the chrome molding. If G is Z28 then it makes sense for Z28 emblems and style trim chrome to be noted as M.

My black copo Camaro has it written in crayon on both fender extensions. Will take a few pics.

That is interesting Mark, as the Ewing COPO I did with the 427 crayon photo posted here, was a Z21 trim car. So the &quot;M&quot; may have been on the broadcast sheet ?

I believe on the BBC box 17 with an <span style="font-weight: bold">S</span> designated style trim, however you may be on to something.
