Man what a build spec (RAII and 4.33s)! Built for get-up-and-go!!! Love V. Green too. Who's gonna buy (and restore) this for me? Charley - you got your ears on? Eddie? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

Amazingly rare car, well respected in the collector circles, commands more money than an equally built RA IV & faster too. Still available.

1968 GTO RA II/Auto - $43,000

It should be noted here that this is one of very few GTO's & A-Bodies in general that you could do a full restoration on today and still be in the black. This is getting very close to break up value & I would rather not part out another round port car especially one of the few remaining ones.

$40,000

A bare 4spd body just sold out of New Jersey for over $20,000 and they made 199 of those. Only 47 of these built, less than 10 known to have survived and you get all the good stuff with it plus a TON of NOS parts.

Is the TH400 trans in this car similar to the hi-shift point units that were installed behind the solid lifter Chevy big block cars?? I just thought with that motor and a 4.33 rear axle, the trans would need to be something special...

Very cool ride...it must really haul the mail.

With the THM transmissions the higher the second letter correlates to a higher performance level.
The SD455 cars got PQ,The highest level I know of in the Pontiac line. This RAII should be close to the Q.

According to this site the 1968 RAII's TH400 had an Application Code of PQ

It would be a PQ, the transmission is the only specific part I do not have.

I have the correct rear, block, heads, crank, carb - all specific to the RA II or 68 RA program but I have yet to find a correct trans.

I would still be interested to know the performance stats of the TH400 used in these hi-po Pontiac cars...did they have the hd internals and hi-shift point governor like the Chevy applications..? 6 lug convertor?

I just sold a 68 PQ transmission. I didn't know I would have told you about it.

The PQ trans I had in my 74 SD455 shifted at 5500. I would not twist a Pontiac up to 6000.
No need to.
