Wanted >>> Info on forms to fill when buying a car from the USA to import to Canada.

I am going to go look at a muscle car this week in the USA but I am from Canada. Does anyone know what that form is called to be filled out by the USA buyer which is a new form that kicked in as of October 2014. It has to be handed in to the USA Side of the border by law before I get a car and cross the border. Let me know by PM on here. Thank you in Advance. If any Canadian has bought a car recently from USA to Canada, they should know this info. Last time a bought a car in the USA was over 6 years and a few things have changed since then. I need to know this info so I can tell or show the USA seller they need to fill these forms out to make sure they are OK with this so I will not waste my time to go see any car in the USA if they refuse to fill this document out. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Not sure on the forms - I always use TFX (20 years +) to pick-up US cars. They handle everything. Always smooth.

They only fill out the export form if it is a long distance purchase across the border. They will need to provide their passport number. If you physically go and see the car and purchase it, you become the exporter and you can fill in the form yourself. I have done this twice in the last year....

I always use TFX too Jim, Wally is a good friend of mine. I will be picking up the car in person with my trailer this time around though.

Mark I don't think it is that simple anymore, I called the border customs this morning and now you need a Broker to do all the paper work without the headaches. Read this link they sent me. Looks complicated to me.

Just did it in January and used a broker. My point was, the seller does not need to be involved in the process beyond signing the bill of sale if you "buy" the car in person. When you do this, you become the exporter rather than the seller And the broker can use your passport number.

If you are shipping with TFX, they will handle all of the import process for $250 or $295 (can't remember which it was ).
