Well, I've been bitten again and as a result I now own another car, like I need another one. But here is what I bought. I'll post the initial pictures I have with some better pictures eventually, right now I'm just trying to wrap my hands around it. Jerry MacNeish has personally advised me that it is one of if not the best unrestored Camaro's he has ever inspected. I know the brake hoses and battery have been changed. It's butternut yellow, black vinyl hardtop, 4speed. Still has the original door protectors used at the factory for shipment, protect-o-plate, registrations and owner history to day one. I'm just a sucker for these original unrestored cars. Original paint, exhaust, mufflers, clamps, red line tires and it drives spectacular like a new car. I know you want pictures, it may be a few days before I get better ones to you because frankly I'm not going to be home near its climate controlled storage for ten days.

I know very little about Camaro's, do believe the rally wheels are added based on notes in the file on the car.

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the Camaro owners club. There's nothing like an unmolested survivor. How about bringing it to MCACN in November.

Another amazing 68.. Looks to be a very early build car too by the looks of the white on the trim tag and the black ash tray cover.. Love it.. We need more pics!!!

What was the condition for cars being equipped with this steering wheel?

My 68 RS/SS with dlx interior had the wheel, I had assumed it was part of the deluxe interior group.

X2 Still have the original for the green car when he (father) pulled it off in favor of the walnut. Rare to see them not cracked.

Even though I own a '69, I REALLY like the '68 Camaro's styling. There are many people who consider '68s to be the "odd man out", but I'm not one of them. In my opinion, the designers "fine tuned" what was on the '67s. The grill doesn't just "end" at the inset lights, the side windows (IMO) look better without the 1/4 vent glass, and the tail lights have equal sides with the center divider. I also like the interior changes.....door panels extend to the inside belt line, console refinement, etc.
I'm certainly not knocking the '67 models as they have a special place in automotive history and the specialty models from '67 are some of the most coveted. I just feel the entire 1968 Camaro lineup deserves a little more respect than it currently receives.
Congrats on the purchase of one fine specimen!!!

I am at a point in my life where I really like my career. I get to play with these cars every day, get to handle some really spectacular cars for clients and every now and then buy one just because I can. Kind a cool, never thought in my wildest dreams that I would still be playing with cars. i'll be back with the 68 Camaro next week and get some more pictures posted. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/3gears.gif

Feeling is mutual, once I decided to bring the car to the event I kind of went dark, felt like it was best to take the car and let the guys doing the vintage type certifications have their day with the car. I Understand the NCRS Bowtie program for NCRS having been in on the ground floor as it was developed and orchestrating it for seventeen years before stepping down, but Steel cars are just different. It's coming to the show wiped off and dusted from the condition I received it in. See you guys in about seven days.. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/3gears.gif

Just a heads up but the fuel should be no more than a 1/4 tank on all cars in the show. So anyone bring a car needs to comply with this requirement. Yes the fire marshalls inspect each car. Just a reminder....

The buzz surrounding this show is getting very loud!!!!

Well the shouting and tap dancing is over, plans are now being drafted for the next move.

We took the Camaro to MCACN, my first time for any type of judging on an American made steel vehicle. The judging team was very busy. Because they had so many cars to do a lot of the groundwork was completed before we arrived. The team members we were fortunate enough to meet were all very engaging and pleasant, we tried to stay out of their way.

Bottom line the car did very well received the "Vintage Legend Certification" From what I can find in my research that's the best we could have hoped for. It's a cool little car, nothing over the top but well preserved.

By the time we received our award there were no judges in sight and we had no chance to thank any of them, in my world it was a job well done.

I may have never been around the judging of a steel American built car, but trust me I have been on the judging field for decades. these guys at MCACN are professional, work hard and did a great job.

It was my first visit to the show, I will be back! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/youguysrock.gif

Roy: Sorry I missed you. I had to come home early as Zack's stay in the hospital went longer then anticipated.

Anyway, I looked at your car as closely as I could on Sat. Can't believe that is original paint. Best original paint first gen I have ever seen.
Congrats on the award.

Yes you will not find any better and more thorough guys than Brett and his crew at Vintage. Having been in on the ground floor during it's development I can vouch for how much research, time and caring goes into their efforts. My first three years I literally went to the room at night and collapsed with a smile on my face. I would not have traded it for the world. I truly learned so much. Thanks for the chance to judge now it is off my "bucket list". On to the book.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all of the kind words. Turns out there is a higher level award the "time capsule" my rough calculations say we missed that in scoring a 94.7% by about 8 points. I have not seen the score sheets yet. I'm really a stickler and basically have not touched this car other than to maintain it, I hate to change an original car that has significant provenance. I know the rally wheels, trim rings and center caps were added by the original owner very early in the cars life, like almost immediately. Should I put steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps back on this car, they wont be original either, but they will give it more of the original look. Is there any chance a broadcast sheet might be located somewhere in this Norwood built car, I really do not want to disassemble it looking for one, but would check an obvious location if there is one.

Lynn, this car may have set outside very few days of its life and probably never over night, the paint is impressive in my world.

Thanks Tim,

njsteve
11-23-2016, 09:27 PM
For Time Capsule you have to get a minimum of 95% in all five reference categories. The Legend requires 85% in all five categories. Reach out to Steve Shauger (Paceme) for your score sheets. He emailed me mine and indicated that they were supposed to be handed out with the awards but for some reason they weren't.

Thanks Steve. Roy has his score sheets now as well. You both had very well preserved cars, and appreciate both your participations in Vintage Certification.

A simply amazing car. I learned to drive a 4-speed in a 68 Firebird 400 Mayfair Maize. I had a chance to look it over and it was one of my top picks. Congratulations on the Legend award.

It just depends what you want from the car. You will have to do some soul searching. Two questions that have to be asked are what is my goal for the and the second being are the parts available. If they are you must make the team aware of the part not being original to the car but if memory serves me correctly you will receive most if not all points for original used or NOS parts
Steve will have to elaborate. Maybe Brett will too if he is on here.
