The "2583" above the vin number looks a little odd and out of place. And the "3" in the vin is a totally different size. Those are what is peaking my interest.

I don't have a lot of '70 stamps in my records. Are there other examples of that "9" that precedes the "C"?

I have seen that style of '9' before, especially on CE warranty block stamps (also seen a few LOS partial VINs with at least one larger sized digit):

----Not too awfully worried about the big numbers since the broach marks look good. Its the small numbers that are out of whack. That set of separate 2583 numbers was not gang stamped.....Bill S

I believe that the 2583 was restamped to correct an error of the beginning the first stamp of 5283

The odd 3 in the VIN is normal for a california built car.

Our old Fremont built Chevelle had a large '7' on the deck stamp for 1967.

The broach marks do look pretty good.

Stamp and broach marks look OK to me. I agree the extra 4 numbers look like a correction to an incorrectly stamped VIN.

I agree with the possibity that it could be a correction. But what doesn't make sense is the original set is correct and if the upper numbers are a correction, then the correction is wrong....

way to unique to be a re-stamp in my opinion.

The vin stamp on my 70 Z project VN car has a large 5 in it. Very common for Van Nuys cars.
