I saw this car today, and thought wow, what a cool survivor. But its a 72. The fact that it is a survivor and a one off color, makes it maybe interesting to someone here. I imagine torque is torque and it should be close to as fast as the 70-71s..?? But value, not sure.

Cool indeed! Not sure it is $90K+ cool though! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif Would this be an M22 car?

well..its got documentation...also its in the VIN...unless there a build sheet...the rest is speculation..how would you prove dual disc...etc etc...

i dont believe for a minute its the only one in that color..i believe its a special order..but the only one?you need rock solid documentation to prove it...and who would give that?...gm just didnt keep records like that....theres just no way to get that info

I believe a 72, 442, W30 just crossed the block at Mecum. I know it was bid into the $70k's range but not sure what it sold for. It was a beautiful car!

237 cars were equipped with the dual-disc clutch through June, with July numbers missing. This is straight from the GM Heritage Center.

I think its a great car ........... for the person that loves survivors, its a great price. For the person that likes a fully restored car, 90 is a bunch, if you want to restore the car, your going to be way upside down. 72's are great though, an X in the vin makes it a lock that its a W30 and I like that. If I did now have our Black car, I would pursue this, I love it <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

----After just finishing the vintage tire thread I couldn't help but notice the Radial TA's. Don probably has a set of originals in stock! Nice W-30 though. Why would anyone restore a properly cared for 11,000 mile car?......Bill S

Yes, 1972 W30's are very cool cars. You could not get AC on them, either.

All 72 W30 cars were built in Lansing MI and they dod not get build sheets put in them by the factory so unless it has original purchase papers its hard to tell.

Don't all the 442's have red fenders inside the engine compartment? Also the sticker on the inside drivers door jam looks like it was removed and glued back on?

Only the W30's have the red inner fender wells; standard 442's do not have them.

Only the first handful of 1972 W-30s produced received the red fender wells. The vast majority of '72s did not recieve them. Also as stated prior the VIN of a '72 bearing an "X" for the engine code will authenticate the W-30 engine option, available only with the 442.

Build sheets in a W-Machine are very rare, but some have been found. They are not like the Chevy sheets, they are the size of a broad cast card, and known as line sheets, but do show most of the options as well as the coveted 4 speed option, NOT shown on broadcast cards.

The only Cutlass Supreme coupe that received the X code engine was the HO Pace car. There are not many of those.

I'm a freak for white interiors and that color combo. is breathtaking. Unless I missed something (which is entirely possible), I don't see the paint name/color/code mentioned or a picture of data plate. Believe it or not, there are some savvy NHRA Stocker guys running that drivetrain because of the factored horsepower. One can still make decent horsepower in spite of the lowered 1972 spec compression. I'd think if that car is truly what the seller is claiming, that authentication should be fairly easy. And price? Well, it just might be the only blue/white 11k mile specimen out there; I've seen less sell for more.

Of course, his "W30" Pace car is not an X code, no X in the VIN. You could get Air Conditioning with the U code.

I love all the 1972 442's advertised with AC. I wonder why you could not combine the options in 1972? There is a very nice X code HO Pace Car here in town. Certainly no doubt that it's a Pace Car with an X code Cutlass Supreme coupe.
