I have 5 of these tires, virtually brand new, old and not cracked - but new looking.

Any idea what these are worth....will be good for a survivor - show car, def not to drive on.

Thanks for the advise....

I drive on them in a heartbeat! All my cars have sets of 40 yr old tires on them and I have zero problems.

As someone who has had a tire with "no cracks" come apart while going down the road, not sure I would drive highway speeds. I just took 4 tires to the shop to have mounted on my 53 Studebaker hard top, even though 3 of the 4 on the car have no cracks. They were mounted in 1986, and the car parked. I still want to drive the car from time to time, so new tires it is for me.

Still, those tires look freakin awesome.

I bought 5 reproduction Firestones (E70 15) from Don at a very good price, and have no regrets. They look OK, but for some reason, I like the look of the GY better.

Don't know what your vintage tires are worth, but I sold ONE that was virtually new (was a spare with evidence of the tits, but HAD at least been on the ground once) for $500 all by itself with no wheel. I would be surprised if you couldn't get $3k for the set of five. Having said that, be glad to trade you straight up for my 5 repro Firestones that are safe at highway speed. I would pay shipping both ways, or see you at MCACN. You would be nuts to accept.

I am not advocating this.

Yes theyare really nice tires and will clean up perfect

Id like to sell them because i need the room and they should be on
A nice survivor or restored car.

So pass on the thoughts so i can come up with a fair price- i do want
Move them and not sit in the garage any longer.

Bought an 86 Silver Spirit a number of years ago. The tires looked absolutely brand new, still had their pips on them (on the tread, not just the sidewalls). Took the car out for a trip from Anaheim to Ventura. The first tire came apart in about 30 miles. Put the "new" spare tire on and got back on the freeway. Second tire disintegrated in the next 15 miles (although I still had air!!--strange). Took the next off ramp and went to the closest tire store. Put on 5 new Michelins.

Never, never drive freeway speeds on really old tires (IMHO). I sure learned my lesson--fortunately without injury or damage--except to the pocketbook!

The value will in part be based on the dates. Can you let us know the datecodes? If you aren't sure how to decode them I can help. These tires may be 8 digits (ex. ADNB JCC1), or a later 10-digit format (ex. PFUD DLA232). If the 8 digit also check if this number is on the inner sidewall (the side without raised white letters), or on both inner and outer sidewalls.

Oh, sorry, I thought these were size E60-15. I'm not sure if these style of E70-15 tires had any OEM application? If yes then the dates will matter.

Cruzin' around town at slow speeds is probably OK with tires of that vintage -- freeway is a NO NO ... safety first. TAZ <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif

I would think they came on a 70 1/2 Z/28, not positive though

I think 1969 Shelby Mustangs got E70X15 blackwall polyglas as std.,not sure what got this size in white letters?

yep you are correct, E's were on 69's but Polyglass were later

Oops. Didn't even see the Polyglas. Just saw the size. Strike what I said about value. I was thinking they were wide tread GT.

What are the TIN codes, on the back of each tire. Based on the tread pattern, they are not for 69-72.

I don't think E70-15 polygas GTs came on any factory musclecars as standard or optional equipment. (stand to be corrected) E-60-15 is a desirable size for 440+6, 440-4, 383 and 340 Cudas, but that's not these - I've seen E60s go for 2k in the same condition as yours. I wouldn't take less than $1100 though - car-specific or not.

If you took your 69 Z down to the old Goodyear store for its first set of replacement tires in 71 or 72, this is probably what you would have gotten, assuming you were keeping the factory wheels.

I know that E70-15 Polyglas Blackwall were on '68 Shelby's.

In '69 the Shelby, Boss 302 and 429, and the Hurst/Olds were the first to have the GT designation. The GT designation was used for 60 series tires.

The first use of the RWL tire in an OEM application was the 68 1/2 Cobra Jet Mustang.

Lynn is right.

Goodyear was advancing the tires down the line. Polyglas was superior to the Widetreads. The only widetreads that were made (for OEM applications) after April of '69 was for the Corvette. Our guess on the reason that the 'Vettes continued with those tires (F70-15 Wide Treads) is that the volumes of suspension tuning data had already been written and the radials were coming up, so why try to rewrite and redo the suspension for 2-3 years?

My new '69 RoadRunner came with Goodyear Polyglass RWLs. Great when dry but really dangerous when wet.

Re:'69 Shelbys- Up to about car 2074, most Shelbys were built with E70-15 tires until they started building them with the upgraded Boss302 spindles and bearings, which Ford determined were needed to handle the stress of F60-15 Polyglas tires. There's a bulletin asking dealers to swap tires on any car with F60s not built with the Boss spindles, for safety reasons. (Which was all for naught when they got fitted with G60's and L60's on deep dish Cragars shortly thereafter....)
