1969 INDIANAPOLIS PACE CAR
Big Block and 4-Speed

I am selling this 1969 Indy Pace Car which was treated to a concours restoration in 2003. It retains its original born with drivetrain and dated correct components and accessories.

History:
• Wayne J. Young purchased the car on May 13th 1969 from McManus Chevrolet, 6117-21 S. Western Ave, Chicago, IL. Actually he gave it to his wife as a gift. The car is one of less than 500 big block powered pace cars built, according to conventional wisdom. The car has very low 34,000 miles according to the original owner. The most likely reason the mileage is so low is that for a rather slight woman, driving a big block (396 powered) camaro convertible with a manual transmission is not particularly practical.
• The car was gifted to Betty’s son Wayne in 1987 and he again drove it sparingly. Around 1988 Wayne attempted a restoration on the car and removed the engine. A year earlier, George O. had seen the car sitting in front of a house and inquired if it was for sale. At the time it was not, but as Wayne proceeded getting deeper and deeper into the restoration he started to feel the enormity of the task.
• On August 11th 1990 Wayne sold the car to Ron Metzger. The car sat until 2000 when a concours restoration was started, and ultimately completed three years later in the fall of 2003. Once completed it sat in Ron’s showroom and never driven for 3 years.
• I purchased the car in July 2006 and have driven it 3,000 mile in the past 10 years. The car has been trouble free and a pleasure to drive, with 331 gears for highway cruising and plenty of torque from its big block power plant.

The car is equipped with the following options:

Super Sport

Rally Sport

Spoilers

396/325hp Engine

Orange Houndstooth Interior

Console & Gauges

Power Steering

Tinted Glass

AM /FM Radio

Auxiliary Lighting Package

4 Speed (M20 wide ratio)

331 Positraction Rear Axle

Power Top

Rosewood Steering Wheel

Tilt Wheel

Speedminder

Endura Bumper

Deluxe Seat Belts

Special Accent Striping (indy pace car)

I am asking $83k for a very rare and well restored Pace Car. I have additional detail pics for those seriously interested that I can email. Please contact me via PM, email [email protected] or call my cell 631-Five 14-9765

3.31 with M20 I imagine is a very nice combo with the Big Block. Extremely nice car Steve GLWS.

I will be putting the car on ebay this weekend. I've had a few inquiries, but wanted to give those interested a heads up. The restoration alone costs more then my asking price.

Have a great holiday weekend....

Thanks Tim. Great car, but after 10 years of ownership she needed a new home. In fact the car is going back home to where it was originally delivered.

Beautiful car Steve! Congrats on the sale & congrats to the new owner. I apologize in advance for borrowing your thread, but I was thinking of selling my Pace Car as well. Time to thin the herd! I have driven mine some. It is an older frame off - not at the level of Steve's car. Rock solid Canadian docs verify factory rare (somewhat) options for a Pace Car - 396/325hp, remote mirror, rosewood wheel, 4 speed, chambered exh, shoulder belts, etc. Numbers match & drive train is the one that was in the car when I bought it years ago (not making claims about "born with" - I did not restore the car, but it is correct numbers and dates). New, correct (re-pro) Goodyear tires just put on last month. $68k firm. Please PM me if interested. Car is currently in climate controlled garage in Florida.
