I am still working on my 71’ Nova and just got around to the trunk lid (someone had replaced the original from a donor car) -- I was in the process of working the gaps and alignment. I noticed the stainless trim below the back window was not quite right – so I removed left and right pieces. There is where the fecal matter hit the rotating oscillator!! THE PANEL BELOW THE REAR WINDOW UNDER THE MOLDINGS IS COMPLETE SHOT – LOOKS LIKE RUSTED SWISS CHEESE!! Can anyone here suggest where to get replacement sheet metal for this area? Will I need to pull the perfect headliner out to replace the rusted metal (welding required) around the top of glass (windshield and back glass)? I haven't called 911 yet!!@#$ TAZ <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/headbang.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif

Is it a VT car? If so, probably a much bigger problem hiding there.

make sure you get the donor metal from a 2 dr Nova, not a 4dr. That metal piece under the rear windshield is different between the 2 body styles

With a welder, and plasma cutter, all things are possible. I've replaced them. Not uncommon on 3rd gen Novas. AMD makes a good replacement piece for that area.

Ken -- Tore into it yesterday to see how extensive the damage was. Ordered the filler panel from AMD last night. I notice many of replacement panels did not have the original mounting tabs/points for the trim below glass -- AMDs panel included them.
Mark -- no engineering degree ... just 41 years USAF/DoD aircraft related (retired). "Saying" goes right along with SNAFU!! TAZ <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/flag.gif

Correct, the surface where the glass seals is a different angle for the 4 door versions - makes the glass sit more vertical.... ask me how I know.... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/eek.gif

Thanks guys -- lots of 4drs down here but the 2drs are getting harder and harder to find. Word's out down here in South Texas that Novas are the cats meow. I may have to get creative with the sheet metal. I've done it before but takes so much time and work ... TAZ
