Maybe a Saginaw shifter. Never seen a ball like that....

I have seen that 'T' marking before...Saginaw 4 spd. I think we have a console version with the same mark. Low horsepower V8 applications got the Saginaw wide ratio tranny. Limited audience for that item..

I had a 72 SS 350 El Camino with a Saginaw and that stick.Do not recall which ball it came with.
Swapped it out for a M-20 and a Hurst.

Tom, how do you tell the difference between a console shifter and a non console?

Donnie...The console shifter kicks the handle over to the right so it comes up thru the center of the console. The non-console shifter is more straight up and comes thru the floor closer to your leg.

The biggest difference is the physical size of the shift handle....the bench seat unit is longer and taller. Console shifter will have a more upright aspect to the handle to make it work with the console setup.
I believe the spring attaches to a tab that is mounted on the driver's side exhaust head pipe to manifold connection...that's how it is on the BB cars.

This shifter is original to a 68 Nova I own. It looks a lot like yours. Original Saginaw 4 speed car with console. There is no "T" on this one.

Small block return spring setup is like the pic on page 1. BB is different setup, the way Tom Williams explained.

Here are some pictures of 1967-68 Camaro/1968-72 Nova console shift handle, and 1968-72 Nova bench seat handle...
Hope this helps... Crash
I think those Nova Muncie sticks were 68 to 71 Nova as the 1972 Nova SS350 used the Saginaw 4 speed. The 1972 Nova SS 350 was down on HP and used the Saginaw 4 sp trans and 10 bolt rear

The last 12 bolt usage was on the 71 Manual shift Nova SS.
