My step-father and mother bought an old farm house that was in foreclosure several years ago. On the property was an old pole barn that was in bad shape. The former owner was a driver for Snap On and this is where he kept is truck. We have started the process of transforming this beast into a usable shop. We are doing as much of the work we can on our own. Thanks to Sam Griffith for pushing me along to get the pics up. Hope you enjoy!!

First up was the clean out. The tenant (former friend) left a bunch of junk for us to clean out.

The roof deck was not in bad shape but the rafter tails were completely rotted. All the tails had to be cut off and replaced along with the gutter board. Then a new 6 in. gutter was installed. All dried in.

Next up was the lighting. Pulled out the 20+ year old florescent fixtures and added 6 new high output LED lights. We kept the old mercury vapor light on the front. Just had to re-feed it and change the photocell. Fired right up!

Nice work. How do you like those LED lamps? What's the ballpark cost? I need to replace my 1960s vintage garage lighting and was thinking about using those. Thanks!

Thanks for the comments. The red square body is a 1986. Last year for the carbureted. Came out of Georgia.

Hi Tony, so far so good. Plenty of light for general use. The lights were about $100.00 with the LED tubes.

Thanks Sam! I tried to keep the panel nice and neat. Yes, we are going to insulate. Not sure what method at this point. I think we need to do some work on sealing up the structure. The old insulation was full of mice when we tore it out.

A Jacuzzi would be nice!

Well, Spring is here and we are back working on the shop.

The lift arrived last week. The floor will be shot blasted next week and we can start applying the floor coating. We are going with a new Sherwin Williams product designed to resist hot tire pick up and tire stains. The product is not yet on the market so we will be the guinea pig! This is 3 coat system. Two coats of epoxy and a coat of urethane. Once the floor is set up, we can starting running and the electric and start setting up the lift.

More to come.

Jason.
