I started out wondering about GRAND AUTOMOTIVE because of this picture:

I'm sure a bunch of your Chicago guys will chime right in, but I would love to know more about who made up Grand Automotive and any stories you can share.

I like this one...
Thanks!
Still not clear on who/what they were. Retail Speed Shop, Tuning Garage, Drag Racers? Who were the Heroes who made up Grand?

I used to buy day-2 stuff there for my chevelle when I was in High school. Weiand air foam air cleaner, valve covers, etc.. I was too young and stupid to remember more details, now I'm old and stupid.

I believe a Speed Shop. Tony Christian was killer in Modified Eliminator. Not sure if Grand Auto was doing the motors or Reher-Morrison. Maybe both.

They were on Washington ave I think in Waukegan IL right by the high school, trying to read the address on the Camaro from the picture Jon posted, it was a speed shop for sure not sure if they did anything else or not. They also got a lot of my money.

Yes, they were a speed shop in Des Plains, IL that I went to a few times.
Once we were waited on by Tony Christian, and at the time I didn't know his racing story, until my friend mentioned something about it.

Jim Swan was the owner or one of the owners of Motor Sport Research. He later owned Downers Grove Yamaha.

Evidently there were a couple of Grand Automotive shops in Wisconsin as well. It would seem reasonable to assume the Waukegan one was the original and the business name came from the street on which it was located.
They spelled Kenosha wrong. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/crazy.gif
