Real factory 427/425hp biscayne, replacement motor but casting number (321) and date correct, correct carb, heads, alternator etc. 4 speed hump is the factory sheet metal never cut, original 4:10 rear (DN code)still in the car. Interior all original car only has 19K miles on it, drives and runs great, Factory front disc brake car so it came with 15" (DC code)rallys to clear the big disc brakes up front. Trunk still has original grecian green paint on underside of deck lid and floor. Gardner exhaust system. The car came out of Minnesota when new. Traced back to the second owner and he had talked to the first owner years ago. Runs and drives perfectly I wouldn't be afraid to drive it home. $42,000 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2016/09/full-7894-49191-pict1291.jpg

Thanks, these cars are rare to find especially in great condition. By the way the antenna isn't on the car becasue I don't like to punch holes in the car covers you may have seen the mast laying in the back seat photo.

Any build sheet or other docs besides the original owners statement to prove validity to the car being a true 425 horse car?
mprice
09-20-2016, 02:41 PM
I wish I had the docs but the short answer is no. If you know these cars a personal inspection would satisfy you. The second owner said the first owner showed him the protecto plate and invoice but wouldn't give it up because he wanted to buy the car back so they ended up in a Mexican standoff. The car came out of Minnesota maybe someone on here knows some history on this car. I bought the car in Maryland. I do have an old drag strip picture of it I will try to add it to this ad. The previous owner to me has tried to locate the original owner but had no luck in doing so. I haven't tried in the short time I have owned it.

Did the 2'nd owner buy the car in MN and bring it to MD?
Any idea when that may've been also how he first connected w/ the O/O?
Awesome car and best of luck w/ the sale!

Larry Meyers owned the car and still holds the A/MP record at MN Dragways. Car was sold new out of Polar Chev.
mprice

Yep that was what I have been told in fact the dragstrip picture I have has Larry Meyers written on the picture. I was told that the original owner worked at Polar Chevrolet and seen the car at a car show in Mn and walked up to the owner at that time and told him he bought it new. Naturally skeptical the owner at that time questioned him so he went home and returned with the protecto plate and invoice.

I really want this car, but I just bought a new offshore fishing boat and promised the wife there would be no new classic cars for a year. If you don't sell it and decide to sit on it for a while, PM me in a year and I will likely be ready then.
In the meantime, its beautiful. Thanks

Thanks for the interest. Who knows I might still have it in a year, I like the car so it won't hurt my feeling if I do. Good luck with the boat.

This is a spectacular car and a great price. Someone is going to get something special for sure. I do have a question and please understand I am not questioning the car, but looking to learn. Just about every other big block 68 Biscayne I have seen has a spacer about an inch thick between the radiator and core support. This one does not. Is something that varied by assembly plants? Thanks, Pat
mprice
09-28-2016, 02:53 PM
Thats a good question Pat and I don't know that I can answer this with certainty. I have sent an email to Scott who restored the engine compartmnet maybe he can shed some light on it. I know there was a 67 and 68 SS427 on ebay recently and both had the spacer. They were both low horse cars but I don't know if that makes a differnce or not. Maybe someone else on this site has the answer?

For your reference here are pictures from the 700 mile original car sold at Mecum a couple years ago and now owned by David Bongarzone
http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2016/09/full-19274-49580-2637_zps01f729cb.jpg
And also from the car known as Ennis' Menace.
http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2016/09/full-19274-49581-ennis_2.jpg
Looking at pictures of your car, it looks like the fan is right at the edge of the shroud instead of half way in, the spacer would fix that.

WoW! nice piece. I had a 68 L-72 427-425 4 speed 4.88 back in the 1970 .... I don't remember it having a A.I.R. pump, did they all come with this option or was it just a California deal?
mprice
09-28-2016, 09:28 PM
Yes regardless of the plant it was built at the air pump would have been on all 68 L72 427s.

In regards to the radiator spacer question I am not sure but this is what we have found in the 1968 assembly manual. It shows that if the car was ordered with heavy duty cooling option which mine has it should have big radiator(4 core), clutch fan, fan schroud but it doesn't show the radiator to core support spacer. I know sometimes the assembly manual is inaccurate but wright or wrong that is why the restorer didn't use it. i know it runs cool enough the way it is.

Is this car "Sour Grapes" the same car as the one that is for sale here? The colors look more blue versus green on the car for sale?
If it is the same car, is there any proof to that effect since there is no documentation with the "for sale" car to prove its a real L72?
PM sent. Please check your inbox.

I am not familiar with the sour grapes car but I would say it is not the car. This car has been painted before but the door jambs and underside of the deck lid still retains its original paint and no sign of ever being another color. My car is known car in the hobby as a real factory 427. I left you a return message in your mailbox along with my phone number please call me at your leasure and we can go into the detail of what makes this car a for sure real deal.

I posted the pic of the "Sour Grapes" car because the vintage pic you posted is the SG car although it looks green in your picture. Here is the same pic where the car looks blue or teal.

Thanks Chad, I guess I misunderstood Sam when I bought the car I thought the picture he gave me was of my car. Your picture is more clear than the copy I have so much so that I can see the standard steel wheels in the front and there is no way those fit over the big 68 disc brakes so that also rules it out from being my car.

I am glad that this got cleared up as I was also wondering if the pictures were of Mick's car based on the apparent color difference. I remember the "Sour Grapes" car from Minnesota Dragways back in the day.
Beautiful car Mick and I hope it goes to a good home.

I have a correction to make regarding the block casting. I stated in the opening ad it was a 321 but I checked again tonight for someone and it is actually a 439 casting. Both can be correct depending if it is a late or early car this car is an 07D so the 439 is correct for this car.

I'm very excited to say that I bought this car last week from the guy that Mick sold it to last year. I am interested in tracking down any documentation or original engine block and transmission if possible. Any help from all of you is much appreciated.
The VIN number is 154118J315545 if anyone has good leads. Thanks!

I am trying to determine if this car was sold at Polar Chev or if that's only the Sour Grapes car that was sold there? Past owners seem to believe this car came from Polar Chev. Thank you

The CRG profile has no contact info but try adding @msn.com to his user name as this was an email address he's used in the past.
No help w/ Jim Hodges other than a few shots below of his Polar Chevrolet sponsored cars.
