any issues with the GM Restoration coils? No problem to 7 grand or so? Thanks!
Can't speak for the 7 grand, but I've had no issues @ all with the one on my car.

slightly brown? Could be a 309R. HiPo cap from GM. they have brass terminals and are real expensive. Does it have the name and number embossed on the top of the cap?

The first coil I bought three years ago did not work out of the box. I sent it back for a replacement and that one went through Legends Judging fine, and has been to 7,000 RPM a few times since then.

Yes, as long as the car did not come with factory transistor ignition. If it had that, then it would have come with a red cap, a D327R.
Long GM part number for the red cap was 800062.

----I have a couple of extra NOS red caps, John. I wonder what they are worth? I also have other transistor stuff (coils, boxes, etc.).......Bill S

I will have to get a close up to see if it is a 309R, it says Delco on the underside....

Yep, I can see the Delco logo on the inside. Between the DELCO and the REMY on the underside, it will say either MADE IN USA, or MADE IN CANADA.

Sorry again this is a cap, not a coil as the thread is intended:-(
Here are the pictures after I cleaned it up.
I don't see any part numbers?

Since it says PATENT PENDING, has an R on the top of the cap and copper lugs, that is a early 1969 brown D309R. D308R (which was black with aluminum terminals, would have been original for Oldsmobile unless it has T.I. / C.D. ignition) will work fine in place of it. Please don't try to overthink it. It will keep you up nights if you do.

Very cool:-)
This cap may be ok to use?

Sure, you can still use it. Just wash and scrub it inside and out with dish soap and a tooth brush. If you want to take out the metal point adjusting window to clean that up, carefully bend the little tab down till it sticks straight out toward the inside of the cap. You can then lift the window up and remove it. To replace it after you clean it and put it back in, simply bend the tab till it's sticking straight up again. I've done that hundreds of times and never broken a tab off yet. You can even swap in a metal window from another Delco cap if that one doesn't clean up to your liking. Vinegar works wonders on rusted metal like the window and the hold down screws if you don't have any Evaporust on hand.

Evaporust is good stuff. This cap is a GM performance style cap which is a better cap.
