I just wanted to share our recent Oldsmobile acquisition.

This is an authentic 1970 W-30 4 speed wearing special order - - Rally Red paint code 73.

There were a total of 1,270, 4 speed W-30 produced in 1970 based on documentation from the GM Heritage center. 1,032 were the hardtop version such as this car.

It was ordered as a steel wheel hub cap car, 3.91 posi, sport steering wheel, AM radio, no console,
The Rocket Rally Pack and the W-Machine package.

It was purchased new in the Indiana, Pennsylvania area and parked in a barn in 1982, by the second owner. He passed recently and the family cleaned the car up and brought it out in the public eye just recently, and eventually it was put up for sale.

There was a very detailed thread about the car by Bill King, the prior owners son in law on Classic
Olds.

While it's had some work over the years as well as some "day two" modifications it is still a very original car.

Another Kool aspect is that it was built in October of 1969, which is believed to be the first month of production with 367 W-30s produced. Based on research this is one of the earliest Documented W-30s currently accounted for. Also the last three numbers of the VIN are "007".

I assumed Rallye Red was red, is it like Carousel Red? Hugger/Monaco Orange?

Just serves to show that your transition into an official 'Olds' guy is nearing completion. There will be more tests ahead.

Very similar to Hugger Orange and Carousel Red, but does have its own unique paint formula as pointed out to me by our very own Diego Rosenburg, noted author, automobile historian and photo journalist.

It still looks Hugger Orange / Monaco Orange to me.

Traditional Red is code 75 know as Matador Red for Olds and a standard available color for 1970 Cutlass.

So it has an auto in it now, did you get the original 4 sod trans with it?

I like the auto with the shorty console.

Very nice and congrats Stefano. I wonder if the Roof Deuce and this one mixed it up around Indiana, PA? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif What town was the original owner from?

Stefano - your thots on recreating that caricature on the rear deck?

Stefano

The second owner had three W-Machines, a Blue W-30 hardtop, this one as well as 1969 Hurst Olds #355. This car received the TH400 from the HO so it still has the OH coded trans with the VIN to #355. Whereabouts unknown. The original 4 speed is believed to be in H0#355.

So if you have 1969 HO #355, I have your original trans.

I'll look up the town the original owners lived in. I like the Ed Roth style monster on the deck lid, so for now it will stay that way.

VIN on a 1970 verifies 442 status but not W-30 status.

What is your VIN & Body number? Also the broad cast card will have the estimated completion date.

I believe only 367 W-30s were built that month and it is believed that most of the production was in the last two weeks.

I have been following this W-30 since it was introduced to the public this year. I discussed the W30 with the prior owners as well as with Stefano prior to his purchase.

I look forward to inspecting this W-30 in person, prior to the start of this years MCACN show.

I have several other W-Machine to check out while in Chicago. See you there.

It cool when the inner crayon w30 markings are still visible on the backside of the fenders.
I am fortunate that the markings are still visible on my car also..
Great find (again) Stefano

You need to know where to look as many times they are very difficult to see.
