Just heard that Brock Yates Sr passed away today at age 82 from Alzheimer's.
This man was legendary in automotive journalism. As Editor and contributor for Car and Driver on and off over several years his viewpoint was always worth reading.
His greatest automotive achievement had to be the Cannonball Run and later One Lap of America, of which I participated in 1991 and 1993. He was also a commentator at Barrett Jackson Auctions around 2003-2004.
Brock is probably going to organize "One Lap of Heaven" once he settles in.

I had a nice visit with Brock at the 2009 Vintage Race at Watkins Glen. We, Logan and Warren Dernoshek and I ,were racing my Yenko Stinger #37, that weekend. Brock was there introducing his Novi replica, driven by Andy Hurtibeese(sp) son of Jim,who drove the original in the 60's. As an aside, our race group contained 57 cars...Logan had fast lap on Saturday..2 min 22sec on the 3.37 mile long course. Not bad for an old Corvair with drum brakes..over 130 on back straight.
