What part of the country is this car from? There was one that looked a lot like this on the local Craigslist in PA not long ago.

Thanks everyone.

It is a Southgate built Caprice that stayed in California until 2013. A friend of a friend in PA (yes, this was on Craigslist) acquired it and wrenched on it for while.

Very nice! That Impala must have made a believer out of you.

I see you used McCollister's for transport. They were the United Van Lines franchise that we used to move from IL to AZ. Great service with no problems at all....hope your experience with them was as good.

Thanks Bill.

There turn around time was great. Communication was good too.

I started with detailing the trunk area last night. Got to start somewhere. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2016/12/full-5238-53768-20161205_093116.jpg

It's a tight fit, but I can walk around it.

Rick, is there an owners manual with the car?

if not I still have the original one in the plastic from my 66 that I wrecked 31 years ago.

Thanks everyone!

Bryan and I went for a quick ride tonight. This car is a beast! The 4.10's make it MOVE! I love how the turbo 400 shifts. But it does rev pretty high at 55. It does not have a tach.

Tonight I removed the front bumper assembly, separated the valence, and will drop it off tomorrow for an application of correct color. Fixed an inoperable tail light socket and installed a bulb in the HVAC control panel. Sure is tight behind that dash with all of that AC stuff.

Going to detail the interior next.

Nothing was I the glove box. I'll buy your owner's manual.

Nice it has 4.10s! That's what my car has too. If they're factory the axle tube should have a DN code stamped on it. I don't like driving mine on the freeway because of the high revs. If I had a 5-speed Muncie it would help. If you're looking for a factory tach I can help.

CC Rider
12-07-2016, 05:38 AM
Next time I raise it off the ground, I'm going to check the axle tube for the axle ratio code.

Tach may be in my future. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/cool.gif

I was reading about that on this site and CT. I'm a little confused; do I need a center link AND idler arm AND pittman arm?

I learned a little since I did mine..........Basically you just need the 67 Idler Arm assy and a 67 Centerlink, and a 3/8" spacer between the idler arm and frame....You won't believe the difference....adding 67 steering arms and a "67" Pitman arm would bring everything to 67 standards , but it would work either way.....Whatever parts you use.....in assembly.....get the Center link parallel to the front crossmember in both directions and then mount the center link to the frame.........I put the threaded mounting holes in the spacer plate and when everything was in position.........I welded the plate to the frame, then I drilled thru the frame rail and then tapped the thread thru the spacer plate so the bolt was screwed into the frame also......lock washers and lock tight.......Align and you are ready to drive with corrected steering geometry........no more squealing tires or black scrub marks in the drive way..........Don't know how that error got past the suspension guys back then

Look at the difference in the Idler arm pivot points and geometry

Thanks Ken,

I followed your explanation until you said to mount the center link to the frame. Do you mean the idler arm? Just want to make sure. Thanks Ken! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif
