Neat ad Paul also love the Barris 'SuperTeen' Firebird too!
Didn't Barris create the Mod Top option as these may be what Courtesy Chevrolet ad's for but cool if they were anything more.
Even 50 Mod Tops sounds like a lot if that's what they're implying, especially @ one dealership?<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif

You know I get that Barris is a legend in the world of automobile customizers but, I have to say, nearly everyone one of his works is ugly in my opinion.
I'm sure I'll catch some grief over my statements but, they are just my opinions.

The '40s and early '50s Sam and George Barris customs are pretty damn nice. But by the '60s the glory days were over.

The Batmobile owes most of it's looks to the fact that it was originally the 1955 Ford Futura concept car. George added a few nice styling features to it in addition to the corny superhero crap. Best looking car of all time in my opinion, but mostly due to Ford stylists.
..and it's iconic radir wheels. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/burnout.gif

The Munster's cars were cool, although I'm not certain Barris did 100% of the builds.

I give Barris mad props for the Munsters machine and the Bat Mobile etc., but other than that his cars were all "art". As with most artists, not everything flows with the mainstream (think Jackson Pollock...). Most of Barris' creations I don't care for, but I can appreciate the work he put into them and the enjoyment he got out of it.

A lot of Barris work was created for TV or Movies and did not have to look good up close. I saw the Sonney and Cher Mustangs at the auctions a few years ago and noticed things like the hood scoop[s were ice cube trays and the grills were plastic difussers from florescent lights. Recently saw the Expo 67 Tornado at a car show, known as the X67,extensive customization, but the baubles looked like they came from a hardware store. All of his work was meant to be 50 footers, creative but not well finished.

The Batmobile can be seen in its original form in a Glen Ford movie I believe. Remember seeing it a long time ago. Its a shame it was customized in the first place.
True,I just recently watched the 1959 Glenn Ford & Debbie Reynolds movie,"It Started With a Kiss" and noticed the car.
LIFE magazine did a write up on it too.
