Someone needs to buy this car, it is 20 minutes from me and I did look at it on Sat and he is holding it for me until I go back later today. In 1998 the now owner bought this for $6k, it was a true survivor w/7,400 miles, it now has 19k and he managed to ruin the car in a sense. It was a 6 cal. and he has many awards from Super Chevy in 2000. The car has all org paperwork, white w/black hat and mint org blue int. He left the org 6 cyl. freeze and break the block, so it now has a SB, auto in it. He offered it to me without the engine and trans. The body needs stripped and painted and the org vinyl top needs taken off. It is a rust free body with all org sheetmetal, but it does show some checking and surface rust in areas. All the org wheels and hubcaps are there.

I really do not have room for this right now, so if someone has interest, PM me your number and I will call you later 12 noon today EST. Attached are before and now pics.

Are you sure that Chevelle has not been around and has 119k?

Yes I am sure, I am showing you the bad part. The interior is mint and looking under the dash and seat you can see how nice it is.

Saw this on the local Craigslist (I live fairly close too - Shippensburg). I would agree that he managed to ruin the car. From pictures, it looks like the V8 install is a real hack job. The craigslist asking price of $18k seems way high. If he is offering it to you minus engine and trans, I am thinking it's only worth $6-8k. I suspect that you'll find a bit of a mess under that vinyl top and rear window trim.

Still looks like a good project though... it would just take a lot of time and money to make it nice, and when you are done, you still have a Malibu that you could probably only sell for $20-30k. Drivetrain, body / paint work, and other mechanical repair (assume it needs suspension / brake work) would cost quite a bit. Assuming you could even buy it for $6-8k, you might be able to break even when done if you count your labor as free. Just my $0.02.

Interesting that the cowl tag shows no vinyl top and neither does the dealership sales invoice.

Doesn't the B above Body on the trim tag denote the vinyl?

"Numbers matching... except for the engine and trans" <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

I'm way overboard on my 327 4-speed Malibu and figure it's worth $25k finished.

Just sayin.
