View Full Version : Bad eBay buyer. BEWARE SELLERS

Sold a 1965 Impala 375hp Holley with the rare peanut bowls on eBay. Buyer most likely damaged carburetor purposely on air horn and sent back carburetor with no bowls and other missing parts. Contacted eBay about this, but please beware. He uses two different user names to bait and switch you as well. His name is Albert Hill out of 42 N Madison Drive Three Way, TN. Also uses a Humboldt, TN address. Ebay user names he uses are 1auto123 to bait you and then buys through tradepart1 which is a private feedback account.

Just received this Holley back this morning. Contacted eBay and it fell under high value claims. They are looking into it now and they had me report the buyer for misusing returns. I'll find out if they side with me or not at some point.

I'm sure it could if the piece that was knocked out was just one piece, but it's multiple pieces. Hardest part to replace are the peanut bowls and they're honestly worth more than the rest of the carburetor.

Because then it gives the appearance that the buyer is at least going thru the motions of returning "damaged goods" in hopes of getting a complete refund on his purchase.

I guess he wanted to justify the return somehow? I forgot to mention that he wanted me to send his money back before he even returned the carburetor. Asked me multiple times to do so. Probably so I wouldn't have any recourse once I found out his scam that was in play. It's unfortunate that a scammer like this has the balls to try and pull something like this off.

I *think* another of his ebay IDs was 'vintagesouth' located in Humboldt TN, just looked it up but the feedback profile is set to private so I was unable to confirm.
Had a number of so-called L78 and DZ blocks listed a year or two ago, never showed close-ups of the pad stamps (just out-of-focus shots), and wouldn't provide better pics on request.
Reminds me of the vintage slotcar race set I sold on eBay.
Buyer returned it to me for a full refund saying it was incomplete, which it wasn't,as he took the missing parts out that he needed for the identical race set he already had at home waiting. He claimed the set I sent him didn't have em.
He would've gotten away with had I not taken multiple date stamped photos of me packing his race set in full detail.
eBay sided with me in the long run and sent me my money back to me again, and told me to keep the now missing parts race set,(buyer wouldn't accept it),& banned the buyer for good.Turned out he had a series of complaints against him like this.
I now always document EVERYTHING I send out with a date stamp on the photos as well as a photo of me handing the shipper the package, along with the tracking #,incase a scumbag buyer trys to pull this again.

Unfortunately, eBay seems to ignore that statement, and generally sides with the buyer. A couple of years ago, I sold an electronic item in good working condition, listed 'as-is' and 'no returns accepted'. The buyer left me positive feedback and sent me a message stating he was delighted with the item.
About a month later he opened an eBay dispute, requesting a refund on the basis the item was not as described. Despite evidence that it worked upon receipt (buyer's message and feedback), and the time since safe delivery, eBay sided with the guy and automatically refunded his payment through PayPal - effectively an account charge-back without me having accepted it.

I don't know how people like that sleep at night; the MAN upstairs watches each and every move we all make. Just remember, "what goes around, comes around" and sooner or later this guy's sour practices will catch up with him. Usually, and not that I sell much on eBay, I leave my PayPal account empty or close to it making it a bit harder for an "unhappy" buyer to make a bogus claim and be "rewarded" a refund. I tend to trust everyone and generally believe all people are good......that is until I get shafted or lied to.....and my memory is pretty darn good. If the perpetrators of these schemes and scams worked as hard doing things the RIGHT way as they do trying to "get over" (I'm trying to keep the language clean), they would likely have more money, toys, parts or whatever it is they are trying to accomplish/gain/attain. I was brought up by the Golden Rule and strive to live by it every day. I'm sorry for you, Matt, but keep the faith, Bro. Fate will intervene and you'll be ahead in spades.

Ebay will not stand with you even when you specify no returns. Had a beautiful pair of NOS 1969 Camaro quarter louver trim pieces still packaged in old GM boxes with original bagged sealant nuts that I sold a lowlife scammer. He said they did not meet his criteria for mint. Disputed me, reported me, and Ebay refunded him from my Paypal account without my approval. I finally got them back and the original GM boxes were trashed. I filed a complaint to no success. I did finally sell them privately to an individual that thought they were perfect. Scammers suck.

Same guy that sold a fake MN motor to a guy in Colorado for like $ 10k. Buddy likes to use pieces of garden hose nailed to the skid to secure his blocks it seems. I bought a JH block years ago from the guy, it was originally a CE block it turns out. He will get his payback someday, hopefully soon.

i too have been scamed by buddy hill i live 25 miles from him or where he used to live. the reason you can not find a house but a swimming pool on the empty lot is because his house burnt a few years ago. i confronted him at super chevy in Memphis Tennessee about selling me a restamped block and and he was making a scene and the security came over to find out what the fuse was and i told him then the security officer told me to take it else where. then buddy just dispeared. i have a phone number but i don't know if its any good 1/731/988/6174 i heard he had moved to Nashville Tennessee . but his daughter goes to college in Nashville. by the way he got me for around 2500$

I've definitely seen this guy's auctions on eBay. What a BS-er.
Has anybody else noticed that eBay has made it more difficult for you to even communicate with people about an auction? Years ago the "ASK SELLER A QUESTION" and the ITEM NUMBER were very large and prominent, now you have to go through several steps to get a box to pop up where you can ask a question, and the item number is so tiny and at the bottom that you can almost miss it. Like they don't want you talking to each other.

There are so many scammers on EBay its not funny. Buyer beware. Watch out for the obvious ones with Zero feedback. Just yesterday I came across a phony EBay ad in which a 1965 GTO resto mod was being offered. Well funny thing is I checked this car out with a buddy in Brooklyn NY last month. The ad stated the car was in North Carolina and showed the Brooklyn NY pics. The ad has since been removed. Be careful guys.

7-8 years ago I bought a really nice 68 GTO convertible from a very reputable car shop in the US and dealt with a great salesman. He calls me two months later to say he just saw all his old GTO pictures on Ebay , (including his dealership sign!)...and was wondering if I was re-selling the car?
I said absolutely not ,...and we were both surprised to see almost his exact same ad, except with new contact info cut and pasted in ....
Unreal what scammers can do....and now it's likely a lot harder to spot
Reminds me of Kurt Pomerleau from Kelowna BC. I called him out over 10 years ago after seeing pics of a 69 Z/28 that I helped restore. He posted pictures of the car here in Oklahoma, including my friends dealer sign in the back ground. Claimed the car was in Canada.
He was convicted on 17 counts of fraud, each exceeding $5000. He was arrested again last year, and waa supposed to go to trial last Nov.
I can't find any updated info after this article from May of 2016:

A friend of a friend just got arrested for beating a thief locally. Hopefully he gets his stuff back. I won't get into details because it's current. Unfortunately the law has to be on their side when they show up whether they want to join in on the beating or not. I hope you guys going the legal route get some good results. Good luck.

Just a brief update about Mr Pomerleau,...rumour has it that several years ago , one of his victims happened to be a Hells Angels biker out of Kelowna,...... After taking Mr Pomerleau for a "ride with a few additional biker friends" and a supposed pretty severe beating, the biker got his money back,...so force apparently does works

Add me to the list of Bud Hill victims. He's a real POS.
Probably about 10 years ago, he had an ebay listing with pics of a legit real (and nice) early 65 962 block. I foolishly contacted him and made a deal off eBay. When the block arrived, it was not the block in the pics, and was not even a 962 block or a 65 block! It was a 66 961 block that had had the reinforcement webs welded on the front of the block, the casting # changed, and the 6 in the casting date changed to a 5. I contacted him and raised hell and threatened to have him arrested. He denied knowledge of it being fake and said he bought it that way, but said he would send me my money back. I got several money orders for $100 to $300 here and there over many months, but never got anywhere near all my money back. Then his email and phone # suddenly changed and I could not reach him any more, and no more $ ever showed up.
I still have the block. Even though charges for the scam he pulled on me are surely barred by the Statute of Limitations, if you can find him and get him arrested and I will be happy to tote the block to TN and hand it and an affidavit to the DA to use as further evidence of Bud's pattern and practice of fraud. He belongs in jail for about 10 years without chance of parol!

Here is a crazy idea.....
Why don't we keep a "live" list of all the dirt bags out there. We can call it the "Do Not Buy/Sell" list. It will give all of us here at SYC a head start on someone or company that has had questionable dealings with our members.
By the looks of this long thread, we might have been able to take advantage of a heads up about this ebay wizard.

It amazes me that this scumbag has lasted this long without having his a$$ beat after having screwed over this many people. I hear people throw the phrase; "What comes around goes around" alot but, I have never known it to happen. Sellers on this site agree to abide by the customer satisfaction rule or risk no longer being able to sell here.. You guys are alluding to something but I'm not sure what. If you had a problem with something you bought on this site you need to present facts or there is nothing to be done.
As to starting a good guys- bad guys list if anything gets posted it needs to be backed up with facts, not opinions. This is not Yellow Bullet.

I just happened to read this thread. What reasons did eBay give for siding with the buyer? You have the original pics from the listing plus you can easily show how you got it back in return (and that it wasn't in that condition when you shipped it out in the first place).
My dad recently bought a 66 L79 intake on eBay. Seller said it was in excellent shape. When we received it, it was clear that one end had been welded and sanded down. Also, part of the top surface was sanded. Couldn't miss these defects (in person but hard to see in the photos) and we couldn't use it on the car. Seller first offered a partial refund but we couldn't use the intake (so it made no sense to keep it) so my dad refused the refund and went through ebay. Ebay sided with my dad, that it wasn't as described and sent him a prepaid shipping label. Once the tracking showed that the seller received it, they issued a refund, which took several days to process but it came. I'm guessing they took it out of the seller's paypal account or billed him through ebay.
It does seem like ebay sides with the buyers more than the sellers and there's not much you can do about it at times.

I sell a lot on ebay, 100% feedback. Have had only 3 disputes in well over 10 years and lost on every one of them. Last one E-bay reimbursed the buyer, and I never even received the part back. I think that borders on "illegal", but good luck getting any satisfactioin from them.

That's why I quit selling anything of significant value (say, more than a hundred bucks) on eBay years ago.
Their philosophy is that the buyer is their real customer. My philosophy is that's a load of horse**** as long as I'm the one paying the fees to keep the place afloat. Anyway, I do as little business with eBay as I can.

It's not only car parts that will get you burned on fleabay. I am an avid guitar collector and have been playing since I was 10 years old. I sold a Gibson Les Paul on there for 2k and the buyer said it wasn't in mint condition and filed a claim on me. He then provided a return UPS number and they instantly took the money out of my account. When the guitar arrived, it wasn't the 2k LP I sold him but a 100.00 piece of crap. Thank God it wasn't one of my rare guitars. After days of phone calls and all that, I finally just gave up. I will never, and haven't sold anything on there since. There are many of these people on there, they should be put in jail.

I was certain I had seen those three faces, but I couldn't remember where. I still may be wrong, but it dawned on me today that it was at the Pigeon Forge Rod Run in TN last spring. One of the jokers that offered to buy my car if I was ever willing to sell it, and he handed me a business card. I threw it away, but I do remember it was some sort of real estate investment company. Ebay has zero concern for sellers. My most recent burn was an electrical part I sent to a buyer in California. My part was described as nearly new, plugged in once but found it was wrong for the application(parts department had ordered it for the wrong car); the buyer requested a refund because he said the part was not new, even though my description clearly stated that the package was opened & the part had been plugged in (btw, it was in perfect condition & functioned perfectly). I agreed to refund, which they issued to him immediately. I stopped the mal carrier when I got my package back from the buyer, because the box weighed nothing & felt empty, even though it was carefully sealed. The USPS mail carrier watched as I opened the box in front of him, it was empty. He signed a written statement to the effect that the packaging was undamaged, it did not leave his sight after handing it to me, and was indeed just an empty box. After sending Ebay documentation, photos & the signed statement from mail carrier, & over 3 hours on the phone, the manager at Ebay told me "tough luck" and that he didn't really care, the buyer would get to keep his full refund & my part.

Im fairly new to the registry. You guys are the best when it comes to this stuff! I never realized how much fraud there is out there and its a real shame. EBAY should be held accountable for fraudulent info and parts as well as the people selling. Im stunned as to how this stuff "looks" original but isn't. Crazy amounts of money being exchanged and all the feedback is positive. blah.

If he will give me his address I will go look at the DZ block he has and see where his operation is. He had a KQ rear end (restamp) that I inquired about a couple years ago , same thing sitting around for 40 years, and I started asking him questions. He got all offended. Seems strange that a person that can rip some one off has such touchy feelings.

How is it that no one has caught up with this con man?
Because of all the stupid laws now. I know that 25 or so years ago, if someone like that was screwing and robbing people, he would have had his stinking, low-life face beaten to a pulp. He now has "protection", in the form of all the ignorant laws that have been passed. You can't even sock someone that really deserves it anymore without fear of being arrested, charged, fined, possible jail time, and paying thousands of dollars to an attorney. I liked it a LOT more back then.

Amazing that he gets away with this..... I was lucky years ago when I was a consultant with the FBI Infragard. Hill stiffed me with a supposed (but fake) L89 Block / Firewall /Trans . Like I said, I was lucky a few calls and a visit from the local sheriff after a call from a agent and my money was returned.
I think the way he gets away with it is that he actually sends something that resembles what he advertised, ie, a rear end, but a restamp. To a non car guy, this seems like a classic civil case of he said, she said. You paid for a 12 bolt rear, or a Big Block and you got one. Just not what the numbers say.
Again, I *think* this is how he gets away with it.

Good luck with that! Delco D969 solenoids have damned near 10 pieces in the box and one set of instructions that does next to nothing to cushion the loose parts. I know, cause I have sold at least 50 of them just like that. If I sell one that has been opened of course I stuff the box with foam sheets, but most all of mine were sold unopened.

Classic Car Fraud Lands Missouri Man In Federal Prison
A Kansas City, Missouri man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for one count of wire fraud and one count of transporting a stolen vehicle following a classic car scheme. According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Missouri, Travis D. Oberg, 51, was fraudulently selling cars that didn't belong to him, and in the end, he ended up stealing $145,000 from his victims.

There is a thread on Moparts where someone had a 'buyer' return used parts and ebay refunded his money and penalized the seller. Seller won't out the 'buyer' so no one knows who to be aware of. Luckily, over here we have some idea of who to watch out for.
Ha, reading old replies here. I knew of Kurt, heard the biker story too when I mentioned to a friend in Kamloops about how I got my money back from a different scammer.
In my case I found out a friend was scammed by the same guy . He'd call about your wanted ads in the free ad paper and say he has new ones or whatever you were looking for. He needed money first because he has to pay the back rent on the storage to get them.
So we both ganged up to get our money back. He had a cousin who worked out a gym with one of "the boys". HA, 81, AFFA, motorcycle enthusiasts... This "Boy" put the fear of God into the scammer in a serious way and said scammer called us up saying he's left our money plus a little extra for our troubles under the planter by the door. And he did. We never met the biker or heard what happened when he went to the guys place.
Betcha Kurt asks a lots of questions now to find out who his scam victims are or who they know before he acts.
