Hey Gang,

My shop complex is known as Garage Oasis, and it's a place made up of about 80 garage condos. Most guys house their collections there, polished floors, mezzanines with pool table, bars, etc. Me? I'm the riff-raff in there with tools and dust everywhere <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif Each year a guy across the alley from me throws a huge Super Bowl bash, and I affectionately call it, the G.O. Bowl!!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif. There's going to be about 100 people there, and we're having a car show as well. So to contribute, I made up these trophies to hand out.

I needed to get a few parts from the Bee chromed and decided to add some bling to the trophies, so I got them plated. The gold one is the Ladies Choice award. The others are Hottest Hauler, Coolest Cruiser, and People's Choice.

The parts are Ford FE connecting rods, Camshaft courtesy of a wiped out lobe 327 Vette engine, and intake/exhaust valves from a FE Ford too. Bases are engine pulleys I had laying around too. The color is base/clear Kona Blue from a 2010 Mustang I had leftover from painting my 56 Nomad years ago. Pinstripes and the center chrome molding is just to add some pop! Labels are sticky vinyl on chrome paper. I welded the parts up and then tacked on a threaded rod that runs through the whole assembly and bolts all the parts together. That way, once the winner is announced, he/she can hoist the trophy in the air screaming, " Yes!!! Yes!!! In your face suckahs!!!!!" and not have the trophy fall apart resulting in parts flying all over and denting hoods/foreheads resulting in massive lawsuits <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/thumbsdown.gif

I'll post up winners tomorrow! Hopefully the rain holds out! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/thumbsdown.gif

Cheers <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

And here's the proud winners!!!! I never expected that they would be such a hot commodity, but we had several recounts due to conspiracy and riggin' of the election when it came to the "Ladies Choice" award. Last year's winner won it again this year, but he still thinks it's HIM who chooses a lady as his award <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif After he was told what that award actually meant, and his wife smacked him in the head, he was a little disappointed but gladly accepted the award....and avoided a pricey divorce!

Mark, the guy on the left, is the host of the show and he won Hottest Hauler for his 1956 Greyhound Bus. Jeff is next, and he won the Ladies Choice with his Audi R8. Mike is beside him who won the People's Choice award for his 1969 Camaro RS/SS. And the Coolest Cruiser was a gorgeous 59 Corvette. Incidentally, the gent who won the People's Choice wasn't even going to come out since he commented to a friend of mine,"I never win anything, but it's still fun!"
<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif A well deserved award!!!!

Hope you enjoyed our little show!

Cheers <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

That's really cool Dave. Is that like a condo where you own your own garage, or is it a rental situation? Sorry if I missed where you stated that already.

Entirely too much fun that is ...

Thanks, guys!!! Mark, yes, it's a garage condo place and everyone owns their own unit. Various sizes, and the complex sold out as soon as it was built. Each unit is insulated, heat and A/C, and plenty of outlets. For a lot of guys it's a hang out, but there are the grunts in here (like me! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif) that do some more intricate work. So, basically, as the afternoon air is filled with grilled brats and ribs along with some classic rock playing in the background, my shop interrupts it with the smell of PPG Base Coat and Rage Gold fumes complimented by a whole lot of "Dern Fragganaguc stupid ratsafrat!!! BAaaaAAAaaaaaahhhhhh!" and various other profanities wafting through the air <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Cheers <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

Those garages are cool they have similar ones here in Detroit that are located next to a race track! Curious with all the ones you have seen what is the flooring of choice? Wondered what looks the best, durable and cost effective. Appreciate any thoughts

Looks like most that want the best protection go with the heavy duty epoxy coating with anti-slip chips. Some have the Race Deck stuff, but those guys all say that if they could go back they'd do the epoxy stuff. And hire a professional to do it....don't do the Home Depot or U-Coat It route if you want it to last under very hard use. You do get what you pay for.

Hope that helps!

Cheers
