They built that concept 40 years later and called it an Escalade. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/cry.gif

I think NorCam was referring to the Escalade XLT
which looks just like an Avalanche.

During the product development we called it the "Escalanche".

Seriously, though, we used the program code GMT806 (the GMT805 was the Chevrolet version).

It looks to me like you could fill the back with water and have a hot tub.

When they first released the Avalanche, I said it was the ugliest thing GM built next to the Aztek. They made it look a lot better in recent years but I still think the Escalade XLT version is far better looking.

When Bob Lutz joined GM as head of vehicle design, he ordered the " vinyl siding" off the avalanche and other GM products. I think he also took the Astec out of its misery.

Bob Lutz was never head of GM's vehicle design. He was the vice chairman...and he did have a lot of influence on the product portfolio...but design was headed by Ed Welburn during his tenure.

This is correct, but just to re-iterate: Mr Lutz did have a lot of influence over design.

Any time he or Mr Welburn would make a pass through the studio we could expect to have to make changes.
