NHRA AZ Nationals Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

Lynn, Holly and I went to the Arizona Nationals today. We had tried to get channel 3 here locally to do some "feel good" donor awareness television from the track with some of the racers, but it didn't work out. We met up with Gary Joseph Lawler and his wife and friend, too!

Our neighbor Kelly Harper had his Top Sportsman Pontiac out and qualified 10th! What a really cool guy....We're going to try and meet up with Erica Enders tomorrow

Really great pictures Bruce! Jack/Tony Antron/Courtney are all great people! Jack is the only driver I know of that stands in front of the rope to meet and sign autographs. Thanks for the Enders pictures as well. She is ready this year to do some Summit damage!!!

Thanks Bruce......Would be great (for me) if you posted pic of CODY LANE. After crewing for Jeff and Cody
Lane for every NHRA race the past 3 years (at my own expense) I decided to back off some this year...as they
have other &quot;friends&quot; who travel with and help out also. Working for Jeff Lane gives me a chance to be
a part of something I could NEVER have done myself ....WIN !!!!!!!!!!!! LOOK at his pit, LOOK at his operation

Most casual fans dont have a clue as to how much dedication, time, money etc etc it takes to be a
Sportsman WINNING Racer. The NHRA treats the Sportsman Racers like &quot;2nd rate citizens&quot; for the most part.
The $$$ payout is minimal and the expenses are huge. Look around at any NHRA National event and you'll see
the Huge amount of personal (including security overkill) that the NHRA pays.

Next week at the Divisonal Race, those grandstands will be EMPTY, as Wild Horse Pass Raceway will have done
zero advertising.........yet most all of the same Sportsman Cars will be there including Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny car which put on a good show...

Same back here Chuck. NO interest in Sportsman Racing around here. Stock, SuperStock and Comp are dinosaurs it seems. I bet NHRA would like to see Pro Stock go also. Fill it in with Pro Mod/Top Sportsman or something like that. Good luck out there.

Bruce, Thanks for taking the picture of the Hancock &amp; Lane Racing SS/BS Cavailier
driven by Cody Lane (Father Jeff Lane drives the #3 COMP Elim Cobalt which was
in trailer as NHRA didnt run COMP at this event).
Did you know that most of those above &quot;door cars&quot; will be back NEXT WEEKEND
for the Divison 7 NHRA Lucas Oil Race at Wildhorse Pass.

Cody qualified #1 with that Cavalier pictured above running 8.65 Sec which is a full second
under the 9.65 Index. With 55 cars in Super Stock Cody had the bye run in first rd.....

In the second round Cody had a .001 RED LIGHT and lost.........

Bruce your pictures are some of the best drag racing PIT pictures Ive ever seen......I'm very impressed
by all the top racing personalities that stood with Holly for photos.....IF youre ever around the H&amp;L pit
again I sure hope you'll introduce yourself to Jeff and Cody Lane....

I've been traveling with them to every Western US Race since 2013, but am backing off some this year.
I still go to his shop and help pull/install engines,trans,diffs and I polish the cars with my equipment.

Here's the Sunday installment. We met up with Jean and Floyd Werlein today (Ken Tibor bought the red Nomad from them). They are great folks. This whole weekend has been a blast and we were also very fortunate to get introduced to Jeff, the public relations manager for DSR (Don Schumacher Racing). We are hopefully going to be working on a special project with him <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Then we bounced back down to the Pro Stock pits and watched Greg Anderson (today's winner in Pro Stock) work on the car before the first weigh in. We also were able to talk to Ken Black and his wife Judy...both very nice people as well!

I asked him what he thought about the fuel injection and he laughed, then whispered that it would be nice to have the carburetors back! Holly told him that he was going to win today...and he smiled and said he hoped that she was right! (She was...he did win Pro Stock)

Greg is very talented racer and tuner...paid attention when he worked for Warren Johnson.
