Anyone remember this 69 Z-28? It was sold new at Martin Chevrolet in Warren, OH.

It is an X-77 D80 car and was originally Code 71 Blue with standard Black 711 interior and currently shows about 300 miles (yes 300) on the odometer. The ownership history is not yet 100 percent complete, but the story is the car was raced from day one, hence the ultra low miles.

It was not cut up but does have slight rolled rear fender lips and a very slight widening of the wheel wells. It has a 6 point roll bar and is now painted black. The entire bottom floor of the car was painted white and the front discs converted to drums for low rolling resistance, both common drag racer mods. There are a couple of old track decals on the windshield and the last one is from 1977 and says "Div. 3 ET Finals" Beech Bend Raceway.

To my knowledge it stayed its whole life in the general vicinity of that portion of Ohio and I purchased it out of Ohio 10+ years ago. Given its life in Ohio, it is still 99% rust free, and that also seems to back-up the story of it being a day-one race car that was garaged with the low miles.

Thanks, not really certain, but may just rebuild the 302 and drop that back in and run it as is for now. Hoping someone knows the car as I would like to learn more about it's early race days.

Yes that's correct, car originally had cowl hood. The remainder of the sheet metal is original to the car. Deciding what to do with it hence trying to find out more about it's time spent racing.

You might have some luck with those Facebook links. I knew the full ownership of my old drag car that I am restoring but did manage to find some old 8mm video and another 5-6 pictures of it being raced through some guys on the local drag strip pages from Facebook. It was beneficial to post about the car through those pages as there were a handful on drag racers there who knew the car and dug out old photo's of it back in the day.

Looks like a real fun project car you have your hands on. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/Can-I-Have-It.gif

Thanks, I have had the car for 10+ years, but finally getting around to tracking down the rest of the history. Hopefully I'll get some info from the FB sites.

Love it! Check the orphans section here and over on CRG. I'd suggest buying any drag-race-related material you can from that time and area. That's what I did with my ex NHRA SS and got lucky and found some stuff. I have a collection of vintage drag magazines and newspapers if you're interested in any. Lots of fun doing the detective work, and YES, those two changes were quite common on serious race cars. That qualifying decal (NHRA) tells me the owner was pretty serious about racing as it isn't easy passing a real tech and trying to run with the Big Boys. Even though the payout is embarrassing, just making the show at any NHRA event is gratifying.......and humbling.

I did learn the very first Div. 3 ET Bracket Racing Championships was held at Beech Bend on Sept. 23-25, 1977. I need to find a list of participants for that event. Ideas?
