20K between oil changes? Use a "high mileage" filter? What the hell kind of gimmick is this?? TAZ

its your engine in your car. i would do 5,000 miles between oil changes, even if its synthetic.

I change my oil in my 95 silverado (350 cu) every 25,000 miles. Thats usually three times a year. I burned a valve at 578,000 miles and elected to put a crate engine in vs parts & labor on heads (TBI engines are still a bargain). Same routine again and the odometer is over 607,000 now. All my daily drivers as well as my parents vehicles got oil changed once a year or 25K miles. I use AMSOIL ( I'm a dealer) and they have been marketing extended oil changed since 1972. Some of the other oil companies are just now deciding to take the same route.

Mobil 1 always advertised every 25,000 miles or 1 year back in the late 70's into the 80's. You just change your filter every 5000 miles and add a qt. of Mobil 1.

So my Q is -- what is a "high mileage" filter as indicated by the folks a Mobil 1? Something here doesn't compute IMO ... TAZ

Why not do the oil change also. If it's a restored or survivor, how many miles are you gonna put on it in a year? $ 30-40 dollars for 5-6 quarts of oil. I think we could all handle that.

I change the oil on my Chevy Silverado and my Wife's Hyundai once a year using a K&N filter and Amsoil 5w30 full synthetic signature series... We each do about 12k miles a year...
I think Amsoil is one of the best synthetic oils out there... No issues here... Just like Tommy stated...

My '14 Ram 2500 w/Cummins is recommended 15,000 mile changes when using Synthetic oil. Truck is at 102K and getting better mileage on the road. An honest 20 mpg on the last road trip.

Maybe the "once a year" theory only applies if you're 3 inches tall.

I'm old school...but, sensible
We change the Berger with top quality synthetic and Wix filter...once a year.
Other hotrods get a once year with high quality 10-40 or 20-50 depending on the motor...plus GM EOS in the L78 cars...again Wix fliter [actually NAPA gold]
Daily driver 2004 suburban every 3-4k with whatever 5-30 is on sale and wix filter.
For a daily driven car...the regular oil changes are important, because it gives you a chance to have the car on the lift and take a look at other things...we rotate tires every other oil change.
Speaking of maintenance....I think my Suburban needs a new starter. I went to start it on Thursday...nothing happened. Dash lites up, battery seems fine [it is new]...a helper crawled underneath and tapped the starter as I manned the key...it then started. So, I guess the starter has a bad spot...off to NAPA soon to see what they have available.
Never ends

Never ever let my oil ever go as long as Mobil 1 says it can. I still change my oil every 4-5000 miles on my SUV. I just laugh how these oil companies claim their oil can hold up to this milegae abuse. Advice to everyone, as much as a new vehicle costs today keep your oil changed reguarly. Its the life blood of an engine. Filters and oil arent that expensive.
