I love the part about GM not considering it a safety threat. I pulled my recall straps when I first installed headers, first trip around the caldasac resulted in a stuck throttle. WFO! Never forget it.....Neighbors were livid, "honest the throttle stuck".
I have a copy of that letter someplace.....

always wondered how they got away with not recalling the '58-'64s too, they also had the same issue.

I know a retired mechanic from Ed Stinn Chevy who installed lots of these safety cables. He said they only installed them on the drivers side due to the way the motor would torque in drive..

He is one interesting fella to talk to. He is in his 80s in age now but is sharp as can be mentally. He remembers alot...
He told me that he personally drove almost every 69 COPO Camaro that Stinn had when they came in off the delivery trucks. He prepped them and said they were fast as hell right from the factory... He said he and the other mechanics would wail on the COPOs power shifting them on the test drives, getting them sideways.
When I asked what would happen if they blew one up being that they were new, he responded by saying it was no big deal just send it back to Chevy... He is funny, then he would also say "you couldn't hurt those things" and just smile and laugh....

Ah, the awesome torque of a Chevrolet engine - a monster that cannot be contained!

I love the part about the fender skirt.. "Trim as Necessary to provide clearance"
Seriously, I recall the use of cables, and even chains, (hardware store stuff) especially before the recall part was widely provided by GM.

Good pic Phil. My 68 had them on both sides, passanger side under the AC compressor, right around the manifold and out around the control arm shaft.

I was driving my buddy's '67 SS 396 Camaro way back in high school, 1980, and when I floored it the accelerator pedal stuck WOT. I had the presence of mind to jam the toe of my shoe under the top of the pedal and unstick it before things got out of control. Sure enough, broken left MM.
