If it is, how can it be stopped.

1968 SS396 375HP Title and vin tag - $2000 (Metro)
I have a title and vin tag from my old 1968 Camaro SS 396 375hp car, I do have a picture of the car and I know all the options it had. I also have the last license plates for the car too (AGAIN THERE IS NO CAR JUST A TITLE AND VIN TAG) You could use it to buy a new retro body and make a new clone car out of it, I will transfer it over to the new buyer as it is still in my name. What you do with it after that is your Business.

I would contact Craigslist directly and report the post. Maybe they will delete it.. Check Minnesota law on the matter first so you can articulate it to Craigslist.. But I would bet it is illegal in that state...

It is illegal to move the VIN Tag from one car to another in any state. That includes taking the VIN Tag from a manufacturer built car and putting it on a new "body in white."

All Craigslist say's to do is flag it as prohibited. I just did that but I don't know how that prevents the person from re-posting.

I don't believe it is illegal to sell or purchase the tags, but it is to re-use them.

My RA IV 69 GTO hangs on my office wall.

Good luck with him validating it came from a real L78 car.. Unless he has pad stamp pics or pop..

I know for sure in Pennsylvania:

It is 100% illegal to remove VIN tags from a vehicle.
(a few states allow for restoration/rust purposes I believe)
It is 100% illegal to dispose of vehicle with removed VIN tags
It is 100% illegal to deal in VIN tags or vehicles with removed VIN tags
