My oldest son (12) has always had an interest in performance cars and builds but has never expressed much of an interest in engine building, until today that is? I have a spare 11:1 motor that I said we should start building for his mom's 55 Chevy truck and he jumped right in to start tearing this one down and get it ready for a trip to the machine shop.

I had him take off the tin work, remove the windage tray and help remove the pistons and camshaft. He was pretty excited to get in there and get his hands dirty and that had me smiling with a proud papa like grin. He wants to go out after dinner and remove the crank to see what we need for the rebuild and get the bearings and parts ordered up. It was a great day spending a couple hours doing a tear down with him. Now to get it machined and build one up with him.

He said he wants to build a 70 Nova SS

Exciting day...you betcha! :beers:

Start them young. Just like Marlin's boys. Good deal!

He he was at 6 years old when we were setting up the 4-link in my 55 Post. He liked driving around in that one with it's blown big block once it was finished up. A little speed junky he is.

He's onto something there isn't he Marlin? I bought a 70 Nova SS last spring and passed it along to a friend in the summer. My kids been saying I should look for another one to replace it. I think I'm in agreement there but it needs to be a big block 4 gear car in Lemans Blue.

He's off school this week so I took him on a parts run down to the Montana Border today. Wouldn't you know it...he brought up Nova's again. lmao

I like that kid!

I bought Benjamin his Nova when he was 1 year old, so he didn't have a chance - lucky for me he really likes the orig color of Rally Green!

My 8 year old son is huge gear head that is interested in anything mechanical. He loves taking things apart just to see how they work. These are papers he brought home from school when he was in kindergarten that made me very proud. "When I grow up I am going to be a Motor Man" and "My dream is about motors and pistons". His spelling wasn't great but he was only 5 at the time.

That had to be a very proud moment for you Chad. You done taught him well.

I like that the distributor is at the back of the motor and not the front. :naughty:
