Thanks guys! Not going to wash it. Here is what I know so far after talking to original owner. Car is original / unrestored by the way. Only passenger front fender as he had a fender bender early on. Original owner street raced the car. Said he made more money doing that than at a track. He added cragars and a carburetor, otherwise untouched original condition. Original owner was in Vietnam war and decided to have his good friend, who was just discharged from the service, order this car for him so it would be finished when he left the service. He ordered the car from Baldwin Chevrolet, with the hood and some upgrades from Motion. It is an original #'s match L78 / M22 / 4:56 rear gear car in Olympic gold. I compare it to Joe C's BM Chevelle as he ordered it. By the way, he put 250 emblems in place of the 396 on front fenders. :) Needs a total restoration.

What a find and serious congrats!!!
Check rear axle stamping as a '69 w/ factory 4:56 would be a Copo 9511 car!
Is there any paperwork or names to try backtracking?
Have you sent for NCRS delivering dealer info yet?
Love the 250 emblems also I'd like to see it w/ steelies and Dog caps.
YES take it to MCACN as is!!!
And you're right, it does seem a similar prep to Joe's BM Chevelle...

belker6
06-23-2017, 01:26 PM
Wilma, I agree! If it can just be made road worthy that would be nice, but probably extensive. As is it is pretty cool. No maintenance, cleaning, etc. :) Still working on docs. The original owner is golden in my eyes as it is a non "hearsay" story / history.

I sent a note to Bob Ashton and Ryan Brutt to get you a personal invitation.

It would be a sin to miss MCACN this November!! I personally attended with my own Barn Find and it is one of my family's best memories:-) I asked my son recently to tell me a best memory of Papa RIP he said MCACN!!!!!

(Yes Wedding, birth of our children, first house, not withstanding)

PS: L78, M22, 4.56, BM sold, Motion items, 3 owner, low mile, original owner, etc..... all great but I think the gold paint and lack of spoilers is paramount:-)

PeteLeathersac
06-23-2017, 09:58 PM
'

For '69 only, Copo 9511 was required for factory equipped 4:56 or higher rear axles.
Not many but some '69 A/F/X-Body cars also Corvettes built/delivered w/ Copo
9511 are known today also documents exist for Copo 9511 '69 Camaros including a
Z28 and a Copo 9561 L72 car, maybe more.
A Z-28 or other '69 w/ 9737 and 9511 would be a Double Copo!
A 9560 or 9561 Camaro w/ 9737 and 9511 would be a Triple Copo!
Looking forward to whatever the axle stamping of this car is!
:beers:

I recently looked at one of the 4 documented 4.56 rear Copo Camaros and like others we have seen it is stamped BE. How would the factory handle the 4.56 gearset if the BE was assembled with the 4.10s from Eaton?

Well, looks like a M21 / 4:10 rear. Date on rear is correct at 1118 for a 11D car. Numbers match engine / trans. Looks like Power steering / radiator gone. He replaced the passenger fender years ago. No stripe or 250 emblem. Have to fix that. :) Front wheels pretty much locked. Took 8 people to push it. Anyone want to see specific pics let me know. Odometer shows 52k. More solid than i thought. Just a bunch of scaled rust. floors / trunk look pretty good. Have to have Schoney look it over for an expert analysis. :)

How did it go from an L78, M22, 4.56 to an L78, M21, 4.10 car?

Stopped up and looked the car over. Very much a street racer set up car. It is a BV coded rear. So having lived in that time period, the 1st owner knew what he was ordering. Good street set up, and some tweaking to make it hook and breathe. And some neat add ons. It would have given a COPO Camaro a good run in the day. Cool piece.

What a super cool find and great car!

These are just my thoughts:

1) Leave it as is and please bring it to MCACN in the Barn Finds Display.

2) After MCACN, do what you can to make it road worthy.

3) Like others said......don't restore it if at all possible otherwise it will be just another restored Camaro (no offense to other restored Camaros). Remember, it's only original once.
