Got a classic, matching-number Hemi in your special ride? Yank it out, set it aside for safekeeping, and plug in one of these thundering Mopar Performance 426 c.i.d. Hemi crate engines. With 465 hp and 485 ft.-lbs. of tire-shredding torque under your right foot, you'll have all of the grins you want on tap, any time you want them. These engines are built around a heavy-duty, cast iron block with cross-bolted mains and a forged-steel crank (3.750 in. stroke). Feeding this beast begins with a dual-plane, single 4-barrel M1 aluminum manifold. The cylinder heads are cast iron, with big stainless steel valves (2.25 in. intakes and 1.94 in. exhausts), heavy-duty valve springs with integral dampers, and umbrella-type valve stem seals. The pistons are forged aluminum, with a 4.250 in. bore and a 9.0:1 compression ratio, and the cam is a hydraulic type. Intake lift is 0.495 in., with 0.480 in. for the exhausts, and 278 degrees of duration for both. These engines come with a Mopar electronic distributor, chrome valve covers and breathers, a premium double-row roller timing chain and gears, the front cover, spark plug wires, and a 6 qt. front-sump oil pan.

Well that's interesting. I guess somebody had bought one, added some things to it and then decided to sell it. The ad doesn't say anything about a build date either. The Summit link says it's not available any more and doesn't have a price so who knows what the original price was.

I believe the original price was around $13,000. You can buy the same engine today only with aluminum heads instead of the iron heads for $19,000 (MSRP)

Some of the crate engines had issues. I think the ones that did were built by the reman group of Cummins. Used whatever parts they were sent, as in bad parts and not much quality control. By now any engine that has some miles on it may be fixed. A crate motor I would see when it was built and plan on opening it up if a cummins product. There were some horror stories with some of them.
