I'm in need of a mechanical fuel pump and looking at the Carter M4889. I like the natural, not shiny look. Plus it supports 120 gpm AND it's made in the USA. :flag:

My dilemma is that it only has 1/4" threads where most are 3/8" or larger. I have 3/8" line......so I'm wondering if it really puts out 120 gph? :confused2: I need it to support a 500 hp motor at 7000 rpms.

Maximum AN line for NPT port size:
1/4” NPT is compatible with up to -6 AN (3/8” hard line)
3/8” NPT is compatible with up to –8 AN (1/2” hard line)
1/2” NPT is compatible with up to –10 AN (5/8” hard line)
3/4” NPT is compatible with up to -16 AN (1” hard line)

As found here:

I learned this when I was doing the fuel system on my 65. The orange and chrome Frame filter is 3/8 NPT but when I used the proper AN adapter- all my 1/2" line and fittings were appropriate.

FYI, I'm not sure I would trust that Carter pump to fuel 500hp.

This is what we are numbing on my Dad's Nova with a small block.

^^^^^Thanks Paul^^^^^

I decided to go with the Edelbrock 1712 which has 3/8" inlet/outlet and will support 130 gpm and is the same fuel pump/part number that came off the car.

I will try to scuff it up at some point to make it dull as it's too shiny for the Blue Bomber. lol
