Many Chevelle and Muscle Car Fans consider the 1970 Chevelle SS to be America’s favourite Muscle car. Certain cars stand above the rest because of one word and reason “SURVIVOR”. All though this car is the base 1970 Chevelle SS 396 (402) 350 HP L34 it only has 13,000 Original miles with 100% original 48-48 Forest Green Lacquer Paint, Interior, Tires, Body and Floors and this SS also has it’s 100% “Born With Matching Numbers Drive Train”. Not many cars can claim this when the term “Survivor” is used. This SS would also be considered a great example of a Benchmark car for other people to restore there Oshawa Built SS in the same matter as every component is also correct with date matching parts. (Only the original 811 Water Pump is not present as it was replaced under warranty in 1973).

This 70 Chevelle SS I'm presenting and consigning today is a superb example of a museum quality piece for an advanced collector. The price all though on the high side reflects how truly special this car is. It is one of the 700 produced for the 1970 model year out of Oshawa Canada that came as a SS 396 350 HP L34 for a Canadian Ordered SS 396 (Oshawa Canada also Built 3,306 SS 396 L34 for USA distribution) so only about 4000 SS 396 L34 Z25 cars were built out of the Oshawa Canada Plant in total.

Car comes with Incredible Documents which include >>> Original Line Tag (Build Sheet), Owner Warranty Protect-O-Plate, GM of Canada Documentation, Window Sticker, Ziebart Document, Owner’s Manual and Dealer Purchase Order. On top of that the Cowl tag being assembled by Oshawa has the major option codes stated right on there like Z25 for SS 396 L34 350 HP, M40 for Turbo 400 Trans, D55 for Console, A51 for Bucket Seats, Only Oshawa Canada built SS’s with L34 or LS5 would have a cowl tag to tell you the main options on your SS as we well know the USA built Cowl tags would not really confirm if your Malibu was in fact a SS. Car also comes with Past owners history which includes a “Used Vehicle Information Package” just acquired this month from the Ministry Of Ontario as the car was owned by all Canadians before the current owner took possession of this car for the first time in the USA. Some pretty cool info is on here of well-known dealerships in the Toronto Area!

Looking at the Ziebart Document it shows it was done by the original owner only 2 days (April 23) after he took possession of the car in April 21 1970. This was a special rust protective spray with the Yellow plugs you see in some photos to get access to certain areas for protection. This Document is included.

Car was sold out of Alex Irvin Motors in Toronto Ontario Canada. Being an Oshawa Canada Built car there are some differences you don’t typically see on USA production cars like Plastic Inner fenders marked made in Canada with Part Number, Different Door Jam Manufacturers Label, Front Grill Unpainted and left a natural Black Plastic for all SS’s out of Oshawa, Different Protecto-O-Plate, Cowl Tag notes major Options, Rear Upper Control Arms have double holes on them (USA production has no holes), Line Tag instead of a build sheet, Different Owner’s Manual and a few other anomalies that are Oshawa specific.

Options Include >>> A01 Tinted Windows with all original clean Glass, A51 Untorn Bucket seats, D55 Console, M40 Automatic Transmission, N40 Power Steering, U14 Gauges with Tach, Z25 SS 396 with L34 350 HP motor. The G94 Rear Axle is the standard 3.31 open unit. Only added option that did not come with the car was an AM radio.

Car had an extensive “Factory Accurate Survivor” Report that was done by Jeffrey P. Ghilani, It is very detailed with 47 pages that points out every specification about the car and it is included. See this link for the complete report http://www.timegoesnowhere.com/chevelle396/Factory_Accurate_Report_1-47.pdf

Along with the Original Tires/Rims/Center Caps & Lug Nuts, this car also comes with a second set of Reproduction SS Rims with Radial T/A Tires. There are also some hoses and exhaust hangers originally from the car that are included.

Car still runs and starts like it did back in 1970 with just a light turn of the Ignition switch she starts right up even with the original point ignition system!

Maybe it's age or the passing of time (same thing I guess), but the green cars are starting to look a lot more desirable to me. Nice car, GLWS.

I'm a fan of stripes, but 1970 SSs without the stripes always work for me – gives it a stockier appearance.

Agreed, a solid color really makes the hood bulge stand out.

Dave, Congratulations on the sale. I never got to see in person but, Jeff showed the photos to me after his inspection. Stellar car. Nothing like original Lacquer paint. Survivor cars have always been number one on my list. Tough one to let go.Do I suspect a red survivor in your future?
