For a 1969 TH400 L78 nova what would be the correct starter #.

Has a Late 68 Build date. would this be 1108418 or 1108430?

and would it have an aluminum nose or cast?

Thank you in advance.

#430 is Auto Trans.
#418 is Manual Trans.

1108430 is the aluminum drive end housing for the TH400.

Has anyone seen date codes for the 430 that are late October of 68?

#418 is Manual Trans.

Camaro is only 1108418 for all 69 big blocks and the P&A manuals indicate that is true for Nova and Chevelle too. Are people sure there's a 430 used for the Nova auto?

I agree Kurt, 1108418 from my research. I am wondering when the starter would of been installed. At the engine plant or what this installed at the assembly plant where the other components would have been installed on the engine (alternator, smog, etc)

I agree to a degree.
There were Auto Trans. equipped 1969 Chevelles built with the #430 starter, regardless what the books say.
But now seeing how early of a build date your '69 is,and a Nova as well,I defer to the experts.

Installed at the assembly plant.

I have found this info to be correct, the big block Chevy used the 1108418 in 69 auto or standard.
