View Full Version : They don't always have to be nice, just have to be fun...

I've always been a big advocate for having fun with these old cars, no matter what they look like. I just like to see them being enjoyed, and for some reason, the ratty and beat up "survivors" "drivers" (whatever you want to call them) always seem to draw a crowd. Here is one of my more recent projects. 1968 Corvette, numbers matching born with drivetrain; 327-300hp, Muncie M20, 3.36 posi. Has typical mods of the late 1970's such as Hurst shifter, headers, Weiand intake manifold, L88 hood because of the high rise manifold, Accel dual point, Holley double pumper, and a mild Comp hydraulic camshaft. Found it sitting in a garage since 1984 half apart and unfinished. Honestly, I bought it to put back together and resell, however, I hit a deer with my 1967 Mustang fastback and decided to make this a temporary driver while I fix my Mustang. Like all Corvettes that have been sitting, it needed fresh calipers and master cylinder and a new gas tank. This car runs great and is a blast to drive. If any of you guys have some half finished or stalled project sitting... just get it running and enjoy it. They all don't have to be perfect, and you'd be surprised how many people like seeing them like that. Brings back memories when most people used to drive their half finished projects.

Just an update... took this car to Atco Raceway last Friday and ran it. Was pleased with results. I was worried about breaking the transmission again for the 2nd time, so I babied it off the line. I bet this would go 12's with some tuning and a harder launch.

Nice! That's moving for a 300/327 with some wear and tear (I'm assuming the engine was in it when you bought it), minor mods, and 3.36 gears.

Drivers are the best! My Chevy II has poor body work and a cheap enamel paint job from 1988, but I'm actually OK with that. It still turns heads, and I don't need to worry as much if I decided to use the car to run errands on a Saturday afternoon. You tend to drive them more when they are not perfect.

Yes, this is completely as found except the 4779 750 double pumper. It had a 3310-3 750 vacuum secondary on it when I got it that was junk. Mileage reads 109,000.
