From what I read, it actually is hugger orange and sounded like the owner didnt know what the car was. That would be very exciting. Not sure how it got lost when the car had ZL-1 on the fender at one time. looks like the TRW was over the ZL-1 at one point.
Lady driver too. Not sure if that is her pictured. Engine is around but not with the car. Would be neat to see some current pictures.

Cool pics...US13 Dragway is in Delmar, DE, (if it's the same US13 Dragway), and very close to me. I started going in 1978, but do not recall the car, but then again, I probably would not have known what a ZL1 was anyway at 14. I also noticed the pic credit of TMcCrea. I wonder if this is Tom McCrea out of Easton, MD?

Thanks for the heads-up on that one Bill! What I'm wondering or thinking did the client have some reason or thought to have the car inspected by JM? But whatever what a great Thanksgiving Holiday that family is having.
Huge congratulations to the owner!

Is there a link to the story or photos of the car as it was found? Would love to see it.

Block for this car existed as of 5 or so years ago. I saw it for sale at an auction I went to in Philadelphia.

Yes, this block was for sale at that auction. Had a giant crack down the center of the valley.

Previous block discussion.

Has anyone seen the car? I had been searching for it about 10 years ago. From what I was told it was cut up to the point there was no way to identify it. If true, I'm curious to know how it was determined to be #56?

The VIN tag remains intact.

Can you elaborate a little more William ?

JM was hired to examine it. I have been tracking ZL1s for many years and he wanted to know what I knew about it. He shared some of his observations including a photo of the untouched VIN tag.

When he is hired to examine a car, it is a private matter between him and the client. I have to respect that. All I can say, it's the real deal.

This was the car right after the second owner sold it. The second owner moved the firewall back. Note the aluminum dash. It was later painted a different color and renamed. I found and talked to the first five owners and after that the trail went cold. I hope the car resembles something like this? Doesn't look like the factory dash but who knows?

Unloading more pics off my old system, these are ZL1 #56 so this thread seemed the best place for them.
As much as I understand, the Original Owner was Dennis Whitestone who named it ‘Warlock’ then his wife Carol Henson raced it for a few years before her success w/ Funnycars they also named Warlock too.
#56 was then sold to Tom Sabo who had Jerry Billig drive it w/ the Juice Machine name as pics above/below then it went through a few more owners until it surfaced/was recognized as the beginning of this thread.
Anyone please correct/add more info also love to hear if Original Engine saveable/back w/ the car yet etc.
:beers:

#56 was one of the few ZL-1's to actually say ZL-1 on it

Chevy was trying to make race cars without looking like they were making race cars

In other photos , the "ZL-1" was not on the fender.

I have read some interesting stories about how Vince Piggins was really pushing the dealers to race a ZL-1 in 1969. He went around helping to put together a dealer with a big name driver including Funny Car drivers.

Vince would also show the dealers how they can make a lot of money selling hi po parts by running a drag car with a lot of viability at the local track

Vince also helped out some of the racers using the engine warranty program. One guy said they blew a ZL-1 engine and Vince sent them a new complete engine. He was surprised because normally they gave you a hard time on engine warranty if they knew you were racing the car.
