I am looking to purchase a original 1972 chevy chevelle from a family member. one owner nickey car. LS3 402 - 4 speed. bench seat black vynil top, midnight bronze. was repainted red by a cousin who owns a body shop 20 yrs ago. Needs a complete restoration. Just wondering what it is worth restored. have all the paper work from new. Been here in IL its whole life.

None at this time. Have not seen the car in years. just know it will need a restoration. Runs and drives but basically has been sitting for a good 10 yrs.

To take a guess at your question, I'd say even in perfect fully restored condition, it's worth no more than $45K. If it is a typical northern IL rusty car, you'll be upside down for sure, but being a family-owned-since-new car adds value for you that's hard to quantify. Coming from Nickey adds a 'cool' factor, too :)

I would suggest taking a good thorough look at the car...maybe a nice cleanup/detail along with fresh mechanicals/tires would do the job. Survivor type cars seem to be very popular...a total resto will be expensive and time consuming.
It wouldn't bother me to drive a car with a few rust spots and bumps and bruises...adds to the cool factor.
Post some photos when you can..
