Got the 70 Z in mentioned from the ebay for sale section. Took some photos and thought Id share.

Original 33k mile car, replacement motor and tranny. Looks like she spent a lot of time at Englishtown from the stickers.

Runs great and definably "day 2". Looks like authentic old stickers on back of trunk lid, along with several more.

Battery relocated to trunk, side pipes, L-88 hood, "traction action" TBars....

Plenty of original paint (50% maybe). Custom paint on underside to match top.

Fun old war horse, bet she's got some stories to tell.

Theres a cool old business near my office called Motion Industries (not car related) that makes a great backdrop for these photos.

Very cool; love the early second gen Z's. What are your plans for it?

Love the side pipes and Cragars. I had a set of those pipes on my '72 SS454 Chevelle, and Cragars with Pollyglass GTs.

If those side pipes include the headers (IE Hookers) they work pretty good. If they're just side pipes connected to the exhaust system via one of the 2" pipes -- way to restrictive. TAZ

For now just enjoy it the way it is.

They are directly connected to the headers. They are much quieter than I expected them to be. They do "open up" when you get on it, but at idle are low key.

Thanks Guys,

Rich

If they are like the Corvette Hooker side pipes, they have slip in mufflers that can be removed to open them up. Don't forget they're there! Most all the 'vette guys and girls have burns on the calves from forgetting. Ask me how I know.

Saw a guy at the McDormans Corvette show years ago with a pair of Levi's with a hole in the back of the leg and embroidered on was an arrow pointing to the hole with the word "Sidepipe". Its like a badge of honor.

I am ordering the NCRS to be sure, but that part of the car is the original paint so I believe so.

This was all I could find on classic Penske dealership pics, but the story is cool.

http://www.autoremarketing.com/trends/penske-chevy-share-more-50-years-racing-selling-cars

This quote was cool:

I had to go Detroit, and Bunky Knudsen at that point was general manager of Chevrolet. He said, ’Roger, we’re not going to have race drivers as dealers, so you have to make a decision,” Penske explained of his 1965 experience.

“Are you going to be a race driver or a businessman?’ That’s probably the best advice I’ve ever had, because I decided no more racing – let’s become a dealer. That’s when I really started my career with Chevrolet, and I never turned back," he continued.

Of course, Penske’s passion for Chevy had been ignited eight years before getting the store ownership offer when he bought his first Corvette, a 1957 competition model. Penske began racing and picking up wins.

In 1963, Penske met George McKean, a Philly Chevy dealer, and took him up on his offer to be the store’s general manager.

And then, Penske’s career as a racecar driver hit a crossroads two years later when McKean asked if he wanted to take over as owner.

Penske may have given up driving cars in races, but he didn’t drop the sport entirely.

He built a TransAm race team back in the 1960s, and racing legend Mark Donohue was his driver. By the end of the 1980s, Penske was part of an Indianapolis 500 championship.

GM president Lloyd Reuss had approached Penske about crafting an engine to compete in the famous race, and in 1988, they got their chance with driver Rick Mears steering the way to victory.

This car is on the "Bring a Trailer" website and the comments are funny (mostly):

https://bringatrailer.com/2017/11/27/period-street-fighter-style-1970-chevrolet-camaro-z28-rs/

"I’m guessing the buyer will be stoked. I’d be growing the pork chop sideburns and sourcing neck bling, flared pants and Peter Pan collared shirts."

"This thing is so ****ing cool I feel like I should give it my lunch money."

"It’s perfect the way it is, color, sidepipes, and especially those Cragar mags. Refreshing, instead of the giant unrecognizable pimping rims you mostly see on old muscle cars today. Hell yes."

"I’ll go out on a limb and predict the guy that laid the stripes on the rear deck and spoiler had only one good eye." (last part omitted for the sacrilege of getting rid of the side pipes!)

"Looks like a HotWheel I once owned!"

"This might be the actual car that inspired the Dead Milkmen to write, “Bitchin’ Camaro.”

"“Who owns this car with the peace sign, the mag wheels and the 4 on floor?”

"I agree 100% BAT, leave it be (well maybe a chain link wheel) and drive the hell out of it!"

"Bring a mullet and a pack of Lucky’s! Nice time capsule."

"Traction bars – check, L88 hood – check, T-Handle Hurst – check, Cragar SS – check ready to relive youth! Very much a ‘period-piece’ although back then, I always wondered why take a road-racing style of car and make it into a drag-racer? Drag racing is what MOPARs were for. But, a nice car that’s going to make someone in their late 50s early 60s very happy GLWS."

"It has been years since I have seen side pipes and an L-88 scoop. These are my favorite F bodies. Funny, I looked at the interior photo and Blue Oyster Cult popped into my head, that’s how period correct this is."

"I saw this and hoped for traction bars. Was not disappointed."

"Those stickers alone ‘gotta be worth an extra 10hp."

:)

I love the car. A buddy of mine got one for his 16th birthday in 1978. He did the exact same mods. His was the light tan color.

Funny, on my 1969 Firebird convertible I put the battery in the trunk, added Cragar SS wheels with BFG Radial T/As and got a set of chrome Hooker "Show Tubes" side pipes. I never got around to installing the side pipes.

I moved the wheels and tires(and Gabriel Hi Jackers) over to my '78 Z/28 in 1980.
