I hate to admit I’ve always liked those... is a 305/auto a total dog?

Hilarious how he compares it to '67 and '69 pace cars as similar investments.

Funny story......local rich kid had his Daddy buy him one of them brand new. He was out showing off with it one weekend with one of his friends riding shotgun. My buddy and I were cruising around with a 3 more guys in the back seat of his 71 impala with a 400 2bbl totally stock. My buddy challenged the rich kid to a drag race for a case of beer. My buddy beat him by half a car length with all 5 of us in the car. The beer tasted just a little better that night:beers:
Yes, it is a total dog.

Cowl Induction?
That Cross Fire Injection is a total joke. I'd rather have the QuadraJet. Have you ever seen the ports in one of those intake manifolds? They are about half the size of the head ports.

My Dad bought one of the very first ones available in 1892. For that first year we were treated like royalty everywhere we went. People thought it was a "race car". He put around 150K miles on it and everything that could break did except for the crossfire. It could barely get out of it's own way with a tire melting 165 HP but it looked and sounded very cool.

I beat on the LU-5 pretty hard in Echoes. With this engine in the Camaro and the Corvette GM left it all on the table. So much wasted potential with the injection set up coming out ahead of gasoline formulated for fuel injection.
The Starting point for the LU-5 was the original 1969 302 over the counter Cross-Ram intake manifold.
The re design of the top part of the intake to accommodate the twin TBI units doomed the idea from the start with smaller runners and a reverse fuel spray pattern (Cross-Fire) that shot the fuel into the opposite side of the manifold creating a unique kind of fuel air imbalance that had the upside of a very muscular exhaust note at idle.
I have owned a LU-5 Pace car for the better part of 30 years now-saddled with 2.73-1 rear gears (as most are) it is strictly a cruiser. I have to admit it is a unique piece of Chevy history now, and while not fast in bone stock -- they can be made quite responsive with tuning and tinkering and hi 14's are achievable with this engine in a stock looking configuration.
Winters did this manifold for GM.
